Second Album-Get Izzy and play the "classics"

They need Izzy's contribution, the songwriting and lyrics were awful from Scott.
I understand none of Izzy's songs made it on that album because they were deemed too "classic" by Scott. Well from what i've heard of this album the songs are too modern and don't fit in well with Slash and Duff's style.
The culprits for this are Scott and Matt always emphasising on being contemporary, if they just played naturally without worrying about being "contemporary" i dare say we would've enjoyed this album alot more.

Booker,
I'm just going with the general reaction on this board which is mixed. I don't think anyone has come out and said they outright disliked it, just that it wasn't what was expected.

It's
exactly
what I expected.
A groove laden, riff driven modern hard rock record.
Thank God for Matt and Scott...

"THE PROJECT" bragged in early interviews how they had 50 songs done and 10 of them had been written with Izzy. I think most of the people on this board can agree that Izzy is a very good song writer. I would of like to off seen one of his songs he worked on with VR on this Album to show the difference in how much Scott's writing affect the rest of the band.

It's important for the band that it's not just Guns n roses with Scott Weiland.
I personally have not heard any of Izzy's solo albums so i can't comment on how his song writing has grown or changed over the years have you?
But i know Scott Weiland has been a wicked song writer with STP and brilliant on the live stage. So i find it hard to imagine this is an album i wouldn't like, it has all the right ingrediants for me.
Give them time. Of course if you feel you can do better then get out there and do it.

Ever thought theres a reason why the lyrics arent super complicated & hide a kryptic message. Perhaps you have to realize not EVERYONE cares about that stuff, if the music sounds good, & you like the singing & what they say. Who cares. Alot of popular things are the simple things in life, you dont always have to make things complicated, as long as you get your point accross i guess, & its easy to tell what the songs on Contraband are about, & therefore much easier to sing a long to at a rock n roll gig
Most reviews i've read love this album (1 bad review from Entertainment Weekly, but Rolling Stones & Kerang! gave it 4 out of 5 & i believe other magazines have given the album the thumbs up, some more happier about the album than others), & thats what counts, the majority. Who cares if the hardcore fans who want 5 minute long Slash solo's dont like it? Who cares if biased idiots like Dave try to bring VR down out of jealousy that there idol has strung them along for long & that we are getting an awesome album & tour while they wait for Axl to come out of hidding (phat chance)
So yeah who cares, besides, believe it or not, the number of people who post her adds up to a small % of the rock fans, & thats why GNR GH is still selling like hot cakes despite the "big plan" to boycott the album. It makes no difference whats so ever
BTW all the guys have said they contributed to the songs, & i'm sure alot of the lyrics Scott wrote were about his own situations, but were also situations the band members have been thru

I' m happy that Contraband isn't AFD 2, but it's something modern
And talkin' about Izzy style classics... Dirty Little Thing, Suckertrain Blues, Do It For Kids are pretty classic style hard rock songs
