I've had this album for well over a year now and still love it.

Not as many solo's as I would have liked but it plays fucking awesome live!!? Meaning, listening to the CD? is not quite the same as hearing them play the songs live at the arena or club (not on TV).? Don't know how to explain it but this CD was meant to be heard live.

The only two songs I'm not crazy about are Illegal I and Spectacle, but again, Illegal I is awesome live.

Yeah Illegal eye is one of teh best live songs that they do for sure.. I like the album version though alot too.  I still think Spectacle sucks though.... Total filler... FTP annoys me also...

I understand you 100% they are fucking amazing live.. The album sounds so much better live.. They really play the hell out of the instruments.. The extended solos, the talking guitar, and matt pounding those fucking drums

Hey,

For the record, after listening to Contraband alongside the GNR records many many many times around the ways and at the gym, that overall, I believe Contraband to be more aggressive musically than the UYI records.
THere's simply more musical kick to songs like STB and SMF and YGNR than songs on UYI like Dust N' Bones, Locomotive, etc.

Im not saying at all that Contraband is a better record than UYI, cuz the Axl factor is huge in making the songs stick longer and have more meaning, but musically, Slash, Duff and Matt and bringing in Dave (rather than a lazy Izzy Stradlin on UYI) bring much more musical punch to the record than they did to UYI. It is not at the AFD level, but it still stands pretty tall to it.

The fact that I can play Contraband alongside the GNR records of yore demonstrates to me that GNR the band hasn't lost it, even though GNR the person has.

Hi everyone How are you doing? I just wanted to share this before... Have you noticed that Contraband, and the first Buckcherry album, are really similar? Considering that one of the Buckcherry guys, helped in the production, well Its nothing really strange, but, its worthy to mention it.

Contraband, fucking good album, has it all!
The ballads are superior, the others are great but not state of the art. But really a great album, best in years.

Contraband had some really rockin' songs and the whole album was good, but there wasn't much variety on the album. I'm excited to hearing what the band sounds like now that they know each other as players.

I find it kind of funny that people keep saying that, I mean it's not as though Slash, Duff & Matt haven't been in a band together before. Even Dave had been playing with the band for quite some time when they were putting the VR project together, so I'm sure they knew eachother pretty well as players.

The only one that was relatively new to the band was Scott, so I don't know how much that will affect the music that they write this time.

You don't think the way a singer sings and learning what he is best at singing would affect the sound of a band?

Yes, but you were making out like no-one in the band knew eachother or had played together previously, which isn't the case.

I'm sure now that they are more comfortable with Scott that we'll get some really great music.

Well there you go, I think Spectacle is one of the best tracks, and listening to Slither again last night, damn that's a great song - a perfect combination of classic rock with modern rock. Can't wait for the new album!

i think the best song is either spectacle or lovin' the alien...
so damn great. at first i did NOT like scott's vocal... but now i am kinda ashamed to say: I WAS WRONG! he is a damned good singer and frontman!

anyway, alittle of topic, d'ya thikn anyone like VR better than GNR? of the new fans and shit? i think that would be weird.. but i guess that would be  the facts...

or do you think the new fans learn about GNR from VR and becomes fans?

I want something more melodic-more of a chance for Slash to show off. The Fall to Pieces solo was great but I'd like more solo openings for him or some cool opening riffs like SCOM, PC, Estranged. I actually don't like Loving the Alien, to me it comes off as weak and out of place on the album.
