What do people make of this comment, and the chances of a reunion based on that remark.

I know the chances of a reunion are pretty much zero, but just on that comment it doesn't sound as though Slash has confidence in Axl's ability anymore.

Is Axl's voice that bad now? Booker and Falcon, if you please i would like to see your opinions on this one.

Thanks.

Edit to: change title. We had a complaint. Check your source material better in future.  Tongue

Source? I'm sorry but i don't believe Slash would say something as stupid as that, what kind of ageist nonsense is this?

If Mick Jagger can tour the globe at 70 odd then 42 year old Axl Rose has no problem.

And his voice is fine.

I may be wrong but i think it was said in a recent radio interview of VR.

Random, i'd appreciate your opinion as well as others, from what i've read on these forums it seems as though the two guys mentioned are among the most objective, sensible and least biased not to mention more knowledgeable on GNR related issues than i am, certainly now anyway.

That was pathetic GNRisAFD.

rant That's nonsense that you thought up as a ridiculous attempt to make Slash look bad. Did you really think someone would believe it!?

Also, I don't think that Slash would say "Axl too old to sing" because he knows how to speak. And he wouldn't have made the comment in the first place because isn't Scott Weiland and the rest of VR, including himself, around the same age?

I may be wrong but i think it was said in a recent radio interview of VR.

I've been following VR-related news including radio interviews and I dont recall him saying that.  I believe some other posters including Booker have transcripted some of these radio interviews on this site as well as on the VR forum, so I guess we can wait for their input.

I am certain that if Slash had made a comment to that effect, it would have been debated here ad nauseum already  Wink

I think somebody wrote a transcript of a radio interview done by VR and i can clearly remember that part of the quote "Axl is too old to sing". I apologise if this is in fact not correct.

No way am i trying to make Slash look bad, i am as excited as anyone about VR and like some others don't even care for the new GNR, i wasn't even a fan of new GNR even when the possibility of a release was a reasonable chance.

I dont remember any comment like that...Definitely not from one of the interviews I summarized.

So I would join the rest in saying that I strongly doubt Slash said anything like that.

As for my opinion on Axls voice...I dont know.  It sounded great on the "SCOM" re-recording from '98/'99.  "Oh My God" is too effects-laden to even really form an opinion.  His live voice has certainly changed.  He rarely uses his rasp and the tone of his voice is generally flatter and weaker than in his prime.  I think thats obvious.  But his best performances on songs like "Madagascar" and "The Blues" are powerful regardless.

So its hard to say whats up with his voice.  Its not fair to judge based on live performances, so Ill just have to wait for a studio recording.  I certainly wouldnt say Axl is "too old" to sing and would love nothing more than to see him and the rest of the band reunited.

Slash wouldn't say something stupid like that. Not that he might not have said it. Axl's 42, that isn't old in music.

That I am.  Angry

Because some people who make excuses for Axl abusing women and such - which is ridiculous - are the same mindless assholes that just have to believe that everything Slash says is wrong. How stupid is that!? So Axl can get away with anything and it's perfectly acceptable, yet Slash, for example, says "Is that really neccessary?" and it has to be sarcastic or against poor little baby Axl.

First of all, I've never heard Slash say that so I'll withhold comment until a source is cited on  that issue.

As for a reunion, I don't see it ever happening.  Personally, I would rather see what Axl can do with his guys and let VR do what they're doing presently.  Though it would be exciting for sure, a reunion would seem to be a step backward for both camps.

Axl's voice has always been hit or miss in a live setting, and at 42 his best days are probably behind him in those terms.  From some of the boots we've heard from '02, that fact hasn't changed.  Great some nights on some songs, not so great other nights on other songs.  That problem is hardly Axl specific, rock singers in general have the same issues, it comes with the job.

I'll have to have new studio songs from him to give a better informed opinion, OMG is just not a good barometer to assess his vocal strengths and weaknesses at this point in time. The song has vox effects out the wazoo and beyond that, it's 5 years old..

Yeah, that?s right. They never siad something against Axl voice. And how do you expect a 36-37 year old guy to say that you are to old to sing or play at 42??
Come on!!!Duff is 41 or 40 and he can still do his thing as good as 10 ago!!!
GNRisAFD, I think this isn?t of your smartest posts.....

This comment is Bullshit. If anyone still has a voice in music who has hit ther 40`s it is Axl.

Robert Plant, for example......BAD EXAMPLE!!

Poor Axl can't do anything right.  I feel horrible for him.  He was probably thinking "I'm so happy with my voice.  It's smooth, soulful, and clear with new power, and increased range.  I learned new ways to sing, and I think I'm finally capable of singing great live, with consistency.  I've really moved forward with my singing, and I'm going to blow everyone away with the vocals on these albums."

Then what happens?  He gets fucking bitched at for being too old etc.  Hey assholes:  Go listen to the Illusion era tours.  Compare that to what you hear today.  He is doing a much better job.  Axl is phenominal.  When I heard Rio 2001, I was blown away.  Axl's sounds amazing.  Bottomline.  Expect a lot of great variety on the new albums.  Before, his voice was going into one place: Ever heard Brian Johnson from AC/DC?  Well Axl was going to sound like that.  There would be no more vocal variety.  He was going to get harder, raspier, damaged until all he could do was scream in one voice.  No range, nothing.  Well folks, he changed his ways and you should all be thankful.  We're getting so much more than what we could have gotten.
