I haven't heard any of the material from VR, but i read somewhere that the first half of the album is rather "average"-and they seem to be referring to the hard rock n roll songs.

Can anyone who's heard some of these "hard rockers" give us their opinion on them? We already know the likes of YGNR and FTP are going to be instant hits but i don't like when there is questions hanging over the guts of the album.

Slither is a pretty awesome song, and if you haven't heard it, just watch MTV2's Rock Countdown and you can see the "average" song which just so happens to be at number one!

Slither is all I've heard from the album, but if it is one of the more "average" ones, I can't wait to hear the even better ones!

Yeah, i've heard Slither and its good without being outstanding but it does the job, and it seems that people are beginning to warm to it.

What about SuckerTrain, Illegal I, Headspace etc. ?

I've only heard Set Me Free/Slither by Velvet Revolver.  Anyway i read in an 'Exclusive' Contraband review that the first part of the album is rather average like you mentioned although the album really picks up in the second half.  The review was in this months Classic Rock and they said it was the exclusive first review (remember this is a UK mag).  I did not buy it but i remember how they sumed it up;

Sometimes Super, Also But Rarely Duper ***/***** or 3/5

That review isn't great but atleast it isn't bad it's kind of middle of the line
