Axl?s European ancestors

This is of pure curiousity. Does anyone of you on this board know which nationality Axl?s European ancestors had? I mention it because the old Guns N? Roses was a charming mixture of different national origins. This is what is official.

Slash = half English / half Afro American

Matt = Norwegian (mentioned by Axl 1993 at the Oslo concert)  

Steven = Jewish (Adler mentioned as a Jewish name)  

Of course they probably come from other nationalities too. I have no idea concerning Izzy, Duff and Dizzy but a guess about Axl is that he may be Irish / German by origin. Axl?s beloved grandmother had the lastname Lintner which sound German. And the red hair ..... well could be Irish.

Guns N? Roses is always called an American band but I find it quite charming that the band consisted of so many impulses from all over the world. Perhaps that would somehow also explain why the temperament of the members are so different for instance the huge different in mood between Slash and Axl.

I write about this topic because (almost) every time I talk to Americans they (you, if you are American) either mention which country their (your) ancestors came from or they (you) are searching for their (your) roots.

But what about Axl?

A quick search online for names known gave me these in origin:

Rose - Scottish, French, German
Bailey - Irish, English (not his birth name, but this is the influence he grew up under).

If any know the maiden name of his mother, they'll be able to check the origins of that too.

Well, no offence meant but unlike Christians and Muslims, it could be discussed whether being Jewish isn?t both a matter of nationality and religion. A lot of people convert to either Christianity or Islam but only a very few to Judaism (for instance Catherine Zeta-Jones). I am no expert but I think it is very difficult to go from being non-Jewish to Jewish especially because Judaism is very much connected to the fate of the state Israel.

But this thread is not about religion. The kilt thing at concerts - as pointed out - could suggest that Axl has a relationship to Scotland.

In the Slane Castle, Irish concert in May 1992 Axl told the crowd he is half Irish and Duff said he was Irish too. McKagan is a typical Irish name anyway. I have the video bootleg for proof. BTW it was a great concert that doesnt usually get mentioned on GNR boards. Check it out if you can!!!

Bailey ( as in his stepfather) is scotish and the Bailey is a clan, related in history to King Bruce.

Rose is more complicated. There was an Irish clan ( before the 1200's) called ROSS. They emigrated to scotland and had a family feud over who was to be chief of the clan. They separated and one branch became ROSE. They are two separate clans nowadays. The ROSE clan are actually titled people whose family Motto is " Constant and True".

But then, no one knows is Rose wasn't a shortened version of Rosen, rosenberg, rosenthal, rosenburg....In the latter case, it if was shortened, it is probably german or polish or even from netherlands AND ....jewish.

Duff does say his family is a quarter black in the Nick Wahl book.  I dont know if he means he is or maybe some of his family married into it.  He does look as white as it comes.

I think Axl cud be Scotish becasue of the kilt, the red hair and the temper so doesn't all the evidence point 2 this?
