The Official VR Tour Predictions thread
«

Any and all predictions as to what will go down on their tour.
I'll get the ball rolling, but feel free to predict anything.....
1. Average length of show:
90 minutes
2. Number of covers played:
6 (2 gnr, 2 stp, 2 other)
3. what gnr covers will they play.....will they play AFD songs only?
it's so easy, mr. brownstone, maybe attitude. i don't think they'll play any UYI.
4. Opening song:
Slither
5. Closing song:
Other cover (zeppelin - whole lotta love)
6. Will they add an opening band....if so, who?
i think this tour will be VR only.
7. Will Scott Weiland make it through the whole tour?
i got a bad feeling on this one. i was hoping the philly show was early in the tour. and with them playing in NY two nights before really has me worried. i'm predicting a may 28-29 relapse with all remaining shows cancelled.

Hey guys!!!
VR has got me so excited. It is really nice to have the Guns of Guns N' Roses doing something great together.
I think the average show will be about 90 minutes like Matt said. I think they will play around 6 covers like Matt said. I'll go with 3 Gn'R and 2 STP and 1 other.
They will sell well and I think they will add someone on as a opening act or have someone come in once or twice to play with them.
GO VR!

I predict Scott Weiland will make it through the entire tour. I know, all the odds are against him, but I think it's gonna happen.

Yeah, 90 minutes is a safe prediction. VR will prob play 11 out of the 13 songs from the album. I will include some Pistols in there as well ( also a safe prediction- the closing song on the english dates will be Anarchy in the UK )
Slither will be song number two. Set me free will open the show.
I think VR will have an openning act by a local band. I like it when big bands support local bands like that.
Scott Weiland better make it through the whole tour. If not, I will audition for the band then and get the singer spot.

i'm so psyched!! one month from tomorrow til their philly date. i just hope i get tix through ticketmaster to avoid getting raped by e-bay or brokers.
a sex pistols cover would be sweet.
a great opening act would be Silvertide. they are the second coming of zeppelin.
i HOPE weiland can stay clean. if he screws up, i don't think he will get any leniency this time - everything could get pushed back 6+ months.

Predictions:
90 minute set, that seems about right. Anything goes for the STP covers, but my guesses are "Sex Type Thing" and "Vasoline." I don't know why, but Vasoline just seems like a good choice.
For Gn'R tunes, they can't play stuff that's out of Weiland's range, which is basically everything except "It's So Easy," "Mr. Brownstone," and "Bad Obsession." I know they will steer clear of stuff like "Jungle," "PC," "Sweet Child," or any of the ballads. "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" is a long shot, but I think that was more of Axl's baby than the rest of the band's. I don't think there's going to be any keyboard player on this tour (or the album), so "Live And Let Die" is out, even though it would make a good choice for Scott's vocal range. Also, don't be surprised if Duff breaks out "Attitude" at some point, so Weiland can take a break for a few minutes.
Both Matt and Slash did long, drawn out instrumental solos on the UYI tour, but somehow I just don't see that happening with this band.
Other non Guns/STP covers are anyone's guess. Probably that Pistols song that's gonna be the bonus track, but hopefully something else that's not "punk-ish." I could see them doing some 70's classic rock track, it won't be Zeppelin, but I could see them doing a Stones or Alice Cooper song...I'd say Aerosmith but that doesn't seem like Weiland's thing.
I don't know about Weiland making it through the whole tour. I really hope he does, but I won't be surprised in the least if he doesn't. I will be looking at my tickets with a bit of skepticism until the moment the band walks onstage in front of me.

Actually Walrus, Aerosmith and Scott are good friends. in fact all of STP and Aerosmith are. The bands have written together, toured together, and Tyler and Perry made a guest appearence at an STP show in Madison Sq Garden in '96 and did Sweet Emotion together. So that is a possibility.

I think they'll have to bow to the pressure of fans wanting to hear Slash play GnR material and include It's So Easy, Mr. Brownstone & Nightrain in every set along with Sex Type Thing & and a STP aucostic song. I'll be @ the Minny show!
I think they complete this club tour, but have to wonder about this band making it much further before the original 5 Guns + Sorum reunite for 2005! Seriously, the world has spoken with the number of GH's sold and the time has come I believe.

I was going to say that I could see them doing an Aerosmith song. Scott sang "Lick and a promise" with Aero. By The Way.. Honkin On BoBo rules!!

That would be awesome if Slash played "Only Women Bleed" or the theme from the Godfather. I can't wait to see this band. I also am looking forward to hearing "Set ME Free." This song rocks big time.

Actually, I think there are a lot of STP songs that the band could do live. "The Big Empty" has to be a consideration since it's the most blusely STP track. Slash would tear it up on that one. "Where the River Flows," "Lady Picture Show," "Vasoline," "Interstate Love Song," "Sex Type Thing," and "Down" would all sound better than ever have with Slash playing them. As for GNR songs, there's really only "It's So Easy" and MAYBE "Mr. Brownstone" that Weiland could handle. His vocal style is just too different from you know who. It would be a mistake not to at least touch upon GNR - "It's So Easy" would be the ultimate set opener, what a way to the crowd pumped up - but expect to hear several STP songs at any given VR show. That's fine by me. You throw in some STP classics, a couple of GNR gems, a cover or two, and, of course, the new material, played by some of the coolest musicians on the planet, and it all adds up to one killer show.
