How many albums in the U.S. do you think Contraband will sell in the 1st year?

My guess is about 2 million.

Slooww down...

As much as VR has going for it (star power, label support, great press), it has almost as much going against it ("supergroup" stigma, generally weak rock sales, Weilands problems) so it really depends.  I think the album is a lock for gold...I think platinum would be a true success.  For all of their star-power, theyre still a "new" band.  Velvet Revolver as a brand-name is still very new, so double-platinum would be a tremendous success for them.  I honestly dont see it happening.  Its certainly not impossible, but not very likely.  I think Audioslave only went a little more than platinum, and thats about what I see for Velvet Revolver at this point.

Agreed.

Audioslave is just below 3 million in the US (certified double platinum 11/20/03), has been out about 18 months and is on it's 5th single...If the VR record does half that, it's a wild success.

Everything Louder Than Everything Else

VR will get more press than Audioslave and Guns were bigger than both RATM and Soundgarden back in the day.  So, it should sell loads.

But I dunno how good the music is gonna be...I'm just wary after how hyped St. Anger was, and all the band was saying it was their best record ever...and how shit it actually was.

But I think it will sell well...if everyone who's told me new GN'R sucks because Slash was the only good thing in GN'R then it'll sell millions.

Well if audioslave sold 3 million in 18 months, VR can sell 2 million in 12 months

Does anyone know the album sales for younger bands like White Stripes, The Strokes, etc?

VR is comparable to Audioslave in terms of 'supergroup' and age, but I'm wondering how they'll hold up against the newer rock bands.

Artist Title Cert. Date Label Award Desc. Format Category Type
AUDIOSLAVE AUDIOSLAVE 11/20/03 EPIC M (2) ALBUM GROUP Std

Damn, Audioslave sold more than I thought...Good to hear.  3 million is a pretty remarkable number for rock acts nowadays.

Gotta hand it to their record label....5 singles?!  I cant remember the last time an album had 4, let alone 5.  "Cochise" and "Show Me How To Live" are two of the best videos Ive seen in years.  Im expecting similar success for VR, if not as great.

Does anyone know the album sales for younger bands like White Stripes, The Strokes, etc?

Well, actually 5 million, certified 4/2/04.

That's an amazing number nonetheless.

I think it will sell well with the right promotion in other countries I mean GN'R have a huge fan base so it can sell well. I think the album will sell generally well I got a good feeling about it. Its similar to Audioslave but I think Chris Cornell was the all on eyes on Cornell I mean the rest of the band is great just think VR will do better.

I'm thinking VR will sell about 300,000 the first week.

It really depends. This many sound pretty fucking obvious, but the success of the album relies on the song quality. I'm not too crazy about Slither or Set me free, they are ok songs but if the album has 13 alike songs, it won't sell more than 500,000. However, if they release YGNR as a second single and another great fucking song after that, it could easily break the million barrier.

Audioslave has sold 3 million cause Cochise and Like a Stone kick serious ass. Otherwise it wouldn't have sold as much. Booker mentioned the album had released 5 fucking singles!!! Not even Eminem or Britney or Chrsitina have released  that many of just one album. Last time an artist release 5 singles of an album was RHCP with Californication ( where my memory goes...) and it sold 5 Million.

I think it can sell anywhere from 2 to 3 million in one year. It think it will be in the top 5 when it comes out in June also.

I'm going to be conservative with my prediction.  I think 1 to 1.5 million would be a reasonable figure.  I'm hoping it does a lot more than that, though.  I really want to see this band succeed.
