without a doubt i think they're best song is freebird, one of my favourite songs of all time, fucking awesome guitar work as soon as it hits that solo i just wanna .............i dunno jump up and down. hihi

yeah i guess sweet home alabama is their most well known song which leads me to another question.

Why is it that 90% of people (majority of people i know) think that sweet home alabama was sung by creedence clear water revival? rant I tell people it was actually lynyrd skynrd and they'll say "who the fuck is that guy?" Roll Eyes

i guess lynyrd skynyrd should be one of the bands in that underrated thread. Cuz nobody knows much about them at all.

ah well its not as bad as ppl thinking led zeppelin is a person...........hahaha..........people rofl

It pisses me off when people blast them as racist rednecks . Let's take LS and Led Zep , two great bands , one is from the southern us and the other is from England. It doesn't mean shit where they're from . LS's influences are Jimi Hendrix,Rolling Stones , The Doors and Neil Young( well, until the song sweet home alabama)

Here's some trivia for ya........

Aerosmith decided to buy their own plane to fly around in for gigs. They checked it out, the pilots were drunk, it was a piece of shit plane. Their tour manager refused to fly in it. Aero's manager were set on buying this plane, because it save a lot of money. Since Aero wouldn't fly without their tour manager with them, they never bought the plane. 3 months later to day the that same plane crashed carrying the members of Lynyrd Skynryd.

Wow...that's an amazing story there Mama Kin.  Fuckin' crazy how shit turns out sometimes.  And Sweet Home Alabama wasn't meant as a shot at Neil Young for his song Southern Man.  It was actually a joke.  They were pretending they were pissed.  The first time Young heard the song he called up the band and told them he got the joke.

That's the exact same way I first heard Tuesday's Gone.  I remember hearing Metallica's version first and I didn't really enjoy it that much but then I heard the original version and I was blown away.

Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd  have called off their touring plans for the next three months so that frontman Johnny Van Zant can undergo surgery for nagging throat problems.

According to a statement posted at the group's website, Van Zant continues to suffer from "acute and chronic inflammation of his vocal cord and development of a large vocal cord polyp." Removal of the polyp will require surgery, and "post-operative rehabilitation will prevent him from performing over the next three months," the statement reads.

Van Zant has been battling recurrent throat problems in recent months. In June, the group postponed some shows while he recovered from "a severe case of strep throat," according to a press release issued at the time.

Earlier this month, the group scrapped several shows to give Van Zant time to rest his voice due to "significant vocal cord inflammation and swelling," said an announcement issued by the band.

Van Zant's condition has forced Lynyrd Skynyrd to call off all of its shows through October, including a stint with The Allman Brothers Band . The Allmans will instead be the sole headliner on the dates that were to feature both acts, according to Lynyrd Skynyrd's statement.

I could be wrong on this one, but wasnt Freebird recorded using 3 guitars, (two rhythm, and one lead)?

When Skynyrd did their first album they only had two guitarists, Gary Rossington and Allen Collins.  After the album was made Leon Wilkeson joined as bass player, and the dude who played bass on the first album, Ed King, switched to guitar giving them three guitarists.
