Waiting for Promised Land....

Caram Constanzo, who has worked with Pearl Jam and STP, may be the main, or at least the current, producer of CD.  I found this from an article about a band called Bang the Union.

...............
Son after writing an initial batch of songs, BTU went into the studio with Caram Costanzo (Stone Temple Pilots, Matthew Sweet - and now producing the new GNR album), and liked what they heard. Caram had to leave to go work with Axl, so the act self-produced its first release, American Dream.

Interesting that the golala board also had the same rumor posted.  http://www.golala.com/forums/index.php?mforum=Gnrforum&showtopic=81 - There's no way of knowing if he sourced it from that page, though - or if he got the info from an independent source.

Wow, great another producer for Axls prolonged project.  Come on just release the album and give us an explanation for why its taking so long.  Those are the two most awaited things for us GN'R fans.

Dark,

There may not be a definitive way to know if he sourced it from that page, but he says that he has communicated with Costanzo personally.

Caram has worked on Chinese Democracy, but I do not know the extent of his input.

He is mentioned on Howard Karp's discography. Go down to year 2000.

If you remember, I got some words from Howard Karp a short while ago, so please do not go bombarding him with emails.

Man, that guy at the golala board is either really creative or has no life outside of the GnR world...

Or both...

This is old news, no??  I thought a while ago, Mysteron posted something to the effect that Costanzo assisted the engineer for about a month way back in 2000?

Well, I do hope a quality producer is helping Axl to create a similar tone and sound throughout the record. Quite frankly, if Axl is the only one steering the ship it will be an erratic effort. Hopefully, the album will be consistent and the songs will be themeatically tied together. A "movement" ala "The Wall" or even "OK Computer " would be right up my alley. (except for I hope for some heavier, ripping guitars!)

That is exactly what i had in mind for my ideal, madagas...I wish to hear a sprawling, thematic epic, drenched in a wall of sound with syncopations and layer upon layer of goodness...the songs have to have a common production throughout.
cheers

Oneway, the only reason I continue to hang on to this is because I truly believe Axl has something like that in him. We saw the glimpses of it on the Illusions-Coma-Estranged, Locomotive, etc. Then, nothing...so Chinese is all or nothing for me. I will be very disappointed in an erratic album. He has spent too much time on this to make the same mistakes he/they made on the Illusions.

Oneway,

I thought that this info indicated that Costanzo's involvement may have been more significant than previously thought.  If you look at the date of the posting of that story, it indicates that it was written recently.

Also, Axl did say in that interview before the Asia/Europe mini-tour that he thought that the UYI albums suffered as a result of his caving in to pressure, and that he wasn't anxious to live through that again.

Yes, Caram has been mentioned before on this board.

For example in this post.

I have found something else (a very quick mention) about Costanzo's involvement with GN'R.
I found that in an article about a band called The Sight-Seers:

? "Fun-Seeking With The Sight-Seers", produced by Jeff Calder (The Swimming Pool Q's) and Caram Costanzo (STP, Guns & Roses) was released April 1996 to positive reviews.

Of course I love Axl and want the best for this record, but I bet if they make another Spinal Tap movie they'll do a bit on the band going through like two dozen producers.

I've spoken with this guy through e-mail and Here's what he had to say to me about working on This I love with Axl.

Here is the portion that I wrote:

Your website is very interesting and you have several works to be proud of.  The thing that stuck out at me most was This I Love by Guns N' Roses.  Was this track fun to work on, I mean do you think that new album will actually come out anytime soon.
Thanks for any reply you can give me,
Justin

And here is his reply:

"it was very boring, sorry to say, just axl and his piano (no singing) and a bunch of idiots running around catering to him and stroking him.

i don't know if they'll ever release anything... shame."

Doesn't sound to proud to work with Axl to me?
