that guy is amazing on stage. a lot of people seem blown away by him don't you think? I read a review by a guy on the internet saying that he is blown away by Richard. that's cool.
a question for those wo went to Guns n' Roses shows: how did you find him? because on my video bootlegs, he is THE new member by far.

IMO, I think it's pretty silly. Just because Fortus moves a lot on stage he's instantly the best new GNR member...based on what?

By looking like Izzy and moving like a rock star?

As it is now he's just playing covers of GNR songs on stage, and Im not praising his skills based on that. Im howewer a lot more into Buckethead coz he's proven what he can do with a guitar. I havent heard anything from Fortus besides playing the same rythm parts Paul did, as Gilby did before Paul and Izzy before Gilby.

Paul howewer was bashed beyong recognition because Slash didn't like him, and since Slash didnt like him, he instantly had to be a bad guitar player.

Most people have never heard even the slightest difference between any of those guitarists, although Izzy used to pretty fucked up and played thereafter.

So no, Im not making him my all time fave GNR member just because he can move his body on stage.

He plays the blues outro solo and it rocks. ok It perfectly fits with the Axl screams. I prefer him to finck. We'll see on the album which of the members contributed.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that Fortus is the "it" guy from the new line up. I will say, however, that he adds what the others add...there own unique style. I mean we have a band now where you combine an extremely versatile drummer, a punk bassist, a straight out of the box of rock guitarist (Fortus), a gothic/industrial guitarist and an infamous experimental guitarist. And if that wasn't enough, they just happen to be led by one of the most controvertial, talented and badass frontmen of all time.

Even without Axl, this band cannot be ignored due to the amount of talent and diversity brought to the table. It will be nice to see them get the respect they deserve when CD is released.

Slash is my all time favourite GN'R member, but it does not effect to judge whether Paul can play guitar or not. Let's face it, Paul was a bad player, musically the worst player who played in GN'R. Well, Izzy used to fuck up songs, but at least he wrote them.
I agree about Buckethead, he's really talented.

I hope so.  Anything less will send Axl back to the drawing board for another decade.

I agree. Richard Fortus perfectly fits with the Rock n' Roll spirit, attitude, music, energy, stage presence AND LOOK of what has always been Guns n' Roses: a Rock n' Roll band. Just Rock n' roll. neither "gothic" nor "industrial" or others psychopat music. Guns n' Roses = Rock n' Roll.
let's play Rock n' Roll, with blues/rock/Piano ballads/accoustic influences. back to the roots baby!

I think Axl was/is trying to go industrial for some years.

Fortus didnt join until 2002 rt?  Axl sounded very happy to have him join the band.  Perhaps they delayed CD so that Fortus' rock n' roll music could make it in there... who knows.

yes random, I was thinking about that too, 2 or  3 days ago. it could be an explanation for why "chinese democracy" takes so long. I can't see Fortus doing an "industrial record". For me that's clear: "chinese democracy" could be a much more rock n' roll record than everybody expects. I think (and I HOPE) so.

Some one did an almost identical post......

As with all these other daft threads i will endeavour to bring some sanity back to them

Richard Fortus joined half wat through the tour - no one has any idea what he can do yet so fuckin calm down

He moves on stage......and?

He's got the 'look': is that really a factor when Chinese Democracy is in my CD player or when i am in Row 999?Huh??

He is 'the' member - fucks sake! Better than Buckethead? Yeah..... nervous better than Axl? He's some daft Izzy lookalike session musician who was drafted in in a hurry cos Paul left.

Its the Axl is Midas effect - anything (or anyone) he touches becomes the greatest musician in his field.

Im not saying you're wrong, but Im very interested in hearing what youre basing that on. What have you heard from Paul's guitar that sounds bad? What exactly is that dude? We got 2 bootlegs with Paul playing..Vegas and Rio. The Rio show was upbeat and not good, but that isnt all Paul's fault..so just what makes him bad? And the Vegas boot are pretty low quality.

He joined at the beginning of the tour Undecided (Before the mini europe - asia tour, I'd call that the beginning wouldn't you?)

Actually, he was going to be in the band before they found Robin/Buckethead (I can't remember which).

The more he plays with this band, the more he will become a huge part of it.  No one can match Buckethead though I mean watch the guy on the new DVD's he's very impressive.

just answer me this then... if this was 1987/88 BEFORE Lies.. everyone would say, axl and slash cant play smooth and soft avoustic slow songs.... they are all hardcore and shit....
and Lies came.. Okey, they could do that too... i dont think that people thought that they could do a ballad like nov rain and dont cry either (well, some have heard it live though)... but they did it...
and NOONE believed axl could make a "techno" song until My World.. and he did it kinda cool too...

and fortus maybe isnt gonna make industrial songs, they may contribute to each other... like duff is punk, he brought some punk in, slash brought some blues'ish rock and izzy brought well, izzy.... :p

get my point yet?

Actually, Axl was gonna hire Fortus years ago, before Buckethead, but then when Bucket joined, he decided he didn't need him anymore, but later on, Axl seemingly decided he needed three guitarists, and hire Fortus after all.

I have nothing against Fortus musically...

But...

I fucking hate his stage antics.  The goofy guitar punching antics look like something straight out of a junior high cover band.

For me, watching him on stage is something akin to a car wreck, you try to look away, but you can't.

It's just that horrific..
