Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steven Adler. The original 5 will always remain the ultimate lineup for me. The new band plays the hell out of the old material, but the original 5 are responsible for the new material. I would judge new GNR material but.......

Axl
Slash
Duff
Gilby
Buckethead
Richard fortus
Matt
Dizzy
Teddy big-bad- zig- zag greek on the harmonica lol (just for old times sake)
Izzy (to co-write as i dont think he would want to tour)
The Bhead/Slash clash theory maybe some truth to it now. But i think if they met under different circumstances they would jam well.

Do you guys really think Steven would be a better choice over Matt?
I don't think he could do it justice anymore, looks pretty wrecked, from what i have seen. Maybe he could do the Appetite stuff. But i would want more than that, i would want Coma, Pretty tied up, Right next door to hell... all those beasty greats.

The ultimate one to me is the one most likely to see perform now a days. So the current line up is just fine with me.

Yes. He's been playing the AFD stuff regularly at his Adler's Appetite shows, and everyone who's seen the shows say he still has it. As Izzy said, Steven had the swing that gave those songs their push and pull. Matt's a decent drummer but he was too much of a power player for GNR.
GNR rarely ever played "Coma" live. Maybe twice.
Most of the UYI songs were written and rehearsed (and some were recorded as demos) while Steven was in the band anyway, so I'm sure he could handle them.

Matt must be given credit for the intro to "You Could Be Mine", that is a technically sound masterpiece of drumming, but the remainder of the song is repetitive and could easily be emulated by any competent drummer.
I think Steven could learn the way Matt played the UYI songs and pull them off just fine. Just because we haven't heard him play many of them live doesn't mean he is not capable.
