i think axl's got a great persona for a frontman.  however, i'd say that slash and duff come off alot "cooler" than axl.  they have a more "don't give a shit" attitude about them.

yeah, i mean i like the music he helped put out with guns during their day... but i agree, all i really see him as now is an enigmatic celebrity of the past due to his lack of contributing anything worthwhile in the past 10 years.  however, i will follow his work in the future (if there is any) and do respect his ability to hold such a following and have the ability to sell out shows after this long.  so maybe the fact that he hasn't produced anything in all this time is better than producing shitty work after the gn'r breakup.
