I believe that in some places near swear words is silience and in some places, whole new words all together.

Yeah I often wondered about this myself I bought my first copy of AFD at wal-mart but it wasn't edited.
I often wonder how did they do the UYI albums in edited form?

They basically made basically, a best-of that has all the UYI songs that don't have curses and YCBM in edited form.

I was thinking about buying the edited version for my niece who is 14. I'd buy her the regular AFD, but my brother probably wouldn't be too happy about it. She doesn't like boy bands and likes to rock. So I think in that case they AFD edited version would be a great gift. She can pick up AFD a few more years after that.

Why? 'Cause I don't think my brother would like me dropping a CD in my nieces lap that is that grown up yet? What do you care? Yea I know she probably listens to shit that is on the same level with language, but it's a parent thing. I say the word Fuck all the time, but I don't say it in front of my kids. She may sneak a beer every now and then, but I'm not going to give her a beer when we go out.
I think it's a great way to introduce a kid to great music.

I'm glad that I live in a country where we so far haven't got any "edited" CD's.

Yeah, but by buying an edited version of any CD, you'd be supporting censorship. Besides, all that's cut out is the cursing. All the lyrics about drugs and banging girls are still intact.

You missed my point. I am not going to hand my niece an album that my brother and his wife would not buy for the kid themselves. If she was in my car and we were driving around yea I'd play it. But if I gave it to her at that age, they'd probably woudn't be to happy about it. It's called respecting the boundaries they have for their child. Even if I didn't agree with it, I'd still respect it.
It's an edited version. Censorship is if the edited version was the only one available. This is an alternative version that is offered without curse words.
Buying something that is edited is not censorship. If you think that is censorship, then don't ever watch a rated "R" movie that has been edited for tv.

I hate that...like Basic Instinct edited version...
Give me a break. Have you ever watched Scarface edited for TV? That's pretty lame. I'm glad I don't have TV anymore. Nothing beats the DVD!
As for the thread, I would never buy an edited version of an album, even for someone young. I understand you don't want to go against the parent's will but I think I'd rather wait 'til the person is older (or convince the parents...
)...Dizzy has a good point concerning the lyrics. Fuck and shit and motherfuckin may have been silenced but they can't change the meaning of the songs. Mr. Brownstone, Out Ta Get Me, My Michelle (you're daddy works in porno), Rocket Queen (the girl having sex in the background), etc. The GH doesn't seem like a bad idea after all!

Scarface sucks on tv, it's true. I like watching R movies on TV with my kids cause they bleep the words and nudity. ( Even edited, I wouldn't watch Scarface with my kids-not at their age.) That way I can enjoy them with my daughter in the room and not have to worry about certain parts.
I see both sides. In this case, with my niece, my brother is pretty laid back. But a couple of songs that say "suck me" or "fuck off" may push it for him. Also an edited version is good because she is the oldest. So even if her parents didn't care that much, she's still got siblings that are 10, 4, and 2.
We both know she hears it in school, or at her friends, but the job as parents is to draw some type of line in the sand. It's not the words per se, it's the principle really. Look at the Ozbourne kids. They walk around the house saying "fuck off". If my kid said that, they'd be laying on the floor in a second
The edited version is like everything else in life: not for everybody. I play AFD all the time, but don't crank it in front of my kids. I just don't.
