Guns N' Roses' Greatest Due In March, But Axl May Intervene

Despite gripes from frontman Axl Rose, Geffen Records plans to release Guns N' Roses' Greatest Hits on March 23.
The compilation will feature 14 songs, including all eight of Guns N' Roses' hit singles: "Welcome to the Jungle," "Paradise City" and "Sweet Child O' Mine" from 1987's Appetite for Destruction; "Patience" from GN'R Lies; "November Rain," "Don't Cry (Original)" and "Live and Let Die" from 1991's Use Your Illusion I; and "You Could Be Mine" from 1991's Use Your Illusion II. The latter album's "Civil War" and "Yesterdays" will be included as well.
Greatest Hits will also contain four covers: Bob Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" from Use Your Illusion II; the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil" from 1994's "Interview With the Vampire" soundtrack; and the Dead Boys' "Ain't It Fun?" and the Skyliners' "Since I Don't Have You" from 1993's "The Spaghetti Incident?"
A source close to Guns N' Roses confirmed that Axl Rose is unhappy about the impending compilation and that he is considering taking legal action to prevent its release. The band's manager did not return calls.
Greatest Hits will feature no new material. The last original Guns N' Roses tune to be released was the turbulent "Oh My God" from the 1999 soundtrack to "End of Days." That year, the band's label also released the double live GN'R CD Live Era: '87-'93. Both were meant to whet fans' appetites for the band's next studio album, Chinese Democracy, which, needless to say, still hasn't arrived.
In 2002, Guns N' Roses previewed new material on the MTV Video Music Awards (see "Guns N' Roses Cap Night Of Spectacles From Diddy, Eminem, Timberlake") and on a chaos-laden North American tour with CKY and Mixmaster Mike, which was cut short with 13 dates to go (see "Guns N' Roses Dates Canceled").
GN'R are scheduled to perform May 30 at the Rock in Rio: Lisbon festival in Lisbon, Portugal.

I like how they ignore that Live and Let Die is a cover, too ...

Why doesn't "A source close to Guns N' Roses" tell us something worthwhile. I have decided that the GH album doesn't mean jack. I am not gonna buy it cause I have all the songs anyway. It is what Axl does in May that will set the tone for the future GNR.

Oh, I'd say Axl has already set the tone for the future of GNR on December 6, 2002 in Philly and in the following year and some odd months when he's remained silent and inactive.

now we just have to wait and see if Axl will sue these guys or not. If he does that will mean more waiting. If he doesn't sue them that will mean more waiting. Either way I think that there will be waiting for something to happen.

Axl needs to learn how to pick his battles.
Mmmmm, stopping a GH album, or getting the new album (CD) ready...mmmm
Seems like a no brainer at this point...

if axl is infact planning on sueing Geffen he is going to have to take action soon as the GH package is only less then amonth away from being released. i think the label is being stupid not to atleast throw in a brand new track from CD, madagascar the blues SOMETHING NEW, that way the GH would surely gain twice as much sales. if axl does pursue court action it will get messy and i can totally see Geffen dropping him and his little project or him being forced to hand over the master copy as a result as the finished product is under contract with the record label. good god, this gets more chaotic by the minute...

From this point forward, the above should be considered an oxymoron.
