When all I've got is precious time

« on: February 18, 2004, 04:19:51 PM »

I am sick of reading all these posts on different boards about people crying about the GHs album. If you really want to show the label its a bad idea to release the GHs album, dont buy it when it comes out.
They will lose money on it and see the error of their ways.

This is for BabyGorilla and the people like him.
Before all my posts about subjective matters there should be an IMO before the post. I took this sig down but of course it has to go back up.

and i'm sick of all the posts where people bitch at what everyone else is doing and try to tell them what to do.

not buying an album is not making noise. it just means that there will be a poor selling, half-assed, gnr album on the market, which isn't good for gnr's reputation (not that they need much help hurting their rep). hence, some people don't want it even released. so let them try to do something about it without insulting them by saying they're making you sick.

It's a double-edged sword, though. Instead of thinking "Oh, nobody wants to hear about the old band, let's get 'Chinese Democracy' out asap,", the record company will see it as "Well, seems no one cares about Guns N' Roses anymore. Next!". I'm gonna buy it for two reasons: 1)the songs will probably best the best quality yet heard and 2)I want the Guns N' Roses name out and on top again, even if it means I have to buy songs I already have on cd, especially from the old band.

Have no fear.  Who the fuck wants that album anyways?  GNR for the most part have been only in peoples subconciousness.  The only thing that this album will do is remind people "I have their albums at home maybe I'll listen to it later" not "Holy shit a greatest hits album I gotta get it!"  Also there is hardly any publicity for this album at all.  Most of the music population won't even know it exsist.  I think it won't even break the top 30 on Billboard.  Then it'll sink like the fuckin Titanic. ok

First you have to pay extra royalies to the old lineup plus other bands considering 25%of the album are covers, CD duplication and distribution as well.  You'll see this album in the $5.99 bin in a year.  Only if Chinese comes out

not buying it wont cause noise, it'll only contribute to shitty sales figures. buying the cd even wont make chinese democracy come out any faster either, somehow i doubt Cd is anywhere near close to being on shelves in the upcoming months.

Lets just hope that Axl and Geffen get this sorted fast and without a law suit, caus that would push CD further to the future, well at least I think that it would..

Once again we have no choice but to hope for the best, fear for the worst.. drool

I don't really think it's us that can make a difference by not buying the CD. If it were they would send all 20 of us (LOL) a note asking us not to, which they've done in a non-directional sense (i.e. Mysteron's e-mail idea). I think they're more worried about the other 2 million people outside of this forum who aren't huge GN'R fans, but rather fans of the "hits" or "singles" who just want the one disc outlining the songs they loved back then....

My thoughts...

Ciao.

I may be the only one who thinks that the Greatest Hits thing is a good sign.  The way I see it, the folks over at Geffen know something.  They likely know that Chinese Democracy is ready to be finished up and released.  However, with the pathetic tour in 2002 there is an air of hesitation surrounding how successful GNR can be again.  This is where GH comes in.  If it is released and many of the "kids" who may not have previously purchased a GNR album in the past go out and buy because they recognize the songs from rock radio and like them, then we have a new fan-base.  Potentially new customers who can go out and buy the soon-to-be-released CD.

they wont lose money on greatest hits, the only money they will spend is a few hundred thousand in promotional costs, the songs are already recorded so there is no recording cost etc, so basically its a profit as long as they sale a very minimum quantity of cds

I still think that this could turn out bad. If Geffen/Universal are doing this out of frustration, don't you think they are going to be even more frustrated that they can't sell a GH and CD is not in sight? I think they finally might say they've had enough and try to cut their ties with them.
