PARADISE CITY: Meanwhile, Axl and his newly revamped Guns N' Roses are scheduled to play the Rock in Rio-Lisbon festival on May 30, their first live gig since their disastrous 2002 comeback tour which was scrapped with 13 dates remaining.

I know a damn nice way to stop GH. Drop the CD masters in Geffen's lap.

This certainly does appear to indicate some frustration on Geffen's part with the band......

that could be good or bad for us

good: it means the album will have to be released soon

bad: if they are getting frustrated it means that Geffen doesn't feel the material is strong enough for further delays........

I really don't see that. I see a possibility in Geffen using the GH to make Axl let go of CD. If the material would not have been strong enough this thing would have been over a long time ago.

My worry is that this Greatest Hits is coming out because Axl is another 6 months or a year away from feeling ready to release CD.

It seems the label have said "Hey Axl, any chance you can finish the album for release this summer?"  and he's said "Um..No.  I need another year."  Geffen have panicked and thought well we'll release a Greatest Hits instead.

This is interesting, and also validates what Mysteron said about the band/management being very unhappy with the GH release.
And I agree with all of you. The best way for a compromise is to Axl and/or management make a statement saying "We have our new studio record finished and want to release it this Spring/Summer." I'm sure more news will follow in the next couple weeks.

I think that this is great news.  Axl is finally putting his foot down and saying the hell with these punks.  I wonder if he knew of the fans protesting....
However this could delay Chinese Democracy even longer if they have to go to court.  Which would be very bad.

This would make some sense, but the weird thing is that after the GH album got pulled from it's original November date, I assumed GnR assured the label that the new CD would be ready to roll in the Spring. But now that they're following through on it, I just don't know. I can't imagine the lack of trust and communication they have with each other. It's ridiculous.

Axl will want to wait as long as possible for the stench caused by this homage to a dead band to clear the air. We could be in line for a long wait for Chinese Democracy if the label is persistent.

I woudld be upset if I was Geffen to.  Who takes 13 yrs to do another album of originals?  What a pain in the ass this must be.  Release the album.  If it sucks then try again. Angry

It could also easily end up in "axl u are fired situation" or not?

This whole scenario is just strange. But i can understand Geffen, i mean look at what axl is doing now/done in the last years. The album should have been finished like 2 years ago. It became a joke in the history, no doubt about that.

It is really disappointing for the fans to see this development because right now it doesn't exactly look like we are going to have a happy end Huh

I think axl owes us (oh attention ! Axl doesn't ows shit to us) yeah i know  Roll Eyes
at least a fucking update about what is going on because this is not the way to treat fans, but hey you already know that, huh? beer

Axl will never be fired.  Even if his label doesn't like him, he won't be fired.  Geffen is smarter than that.  They don't care about the drama stuff all they care about it is the bottom line, which is how much money they bring in.  And they know that they can bring in a shit load of money so they will never get rid of him.

Normal people feel this way about releasing albums  Wink

But for Axl, this is his baby, his masterpiece, his "preciousssss....."

I'm not sure what Axl would do if CD proves to be either a commercial failure
-or- deemed a failure by music critics.   I wonder if he would continue...

well said..it's just business, nothing more. they want all the money they can get out of it. they have invested a huge amount of money into that album..now throw it all away, I don't think so.
