i dont like the darkness and i think ta have them compared with gnr is a joke the darkness are al about posing for the camera and looking "pretty" and are in essence a hairmetal band in the sense of mass cheese and joke lyrics where as gnr were at the end of the 80's hairmetal scene they wernt a typical hairmetal band like they had decent powerful lyrics, they were authentic-genuine and had shit loads of attitude and (when they started) were just about rocking out and gettin wasted but the darkness just seem fake to me.  and  i just dont loike there songs anyway
but anywho thats just my 2 cents

Joke lyrics? What joke lyrics? Have you even listened to any of their songs or just read a half assed review? Whereas "used to love her" is, to quote Axl, "a joke, nothing more"

As for them "looking pretty" i think you'd actually have to have seen them understand how ludicrous that statement is. And their posing is in the great british tradition of good "camp" which they are doing brilliantly.

You've let too many crappy reviews form an opinion for you. Anyone online that i told about the darkness before they made it thinks their great cos they made up their own minds - you're just jumping on the "anti-popularity" bandwagon.
fuck u dont fucking judge what i think, ive got the darkness' album and i think most of it is a joke plus justin hawkins has actually said on a radio interview on virgin "i write the stupid jokey lyrics and the over the top solos" so piss off and the "used to love her " thing thats one song out more than 50 now come on get real no i aint just jumping on the anti popularity bandwagon u fuking shithead ,i had permission to land b4 anyone i know ever did and just didnt take to it

Both GNR and the Darkness are great bands.  They're both really enjoyable to liten to which isn't the case with most music today.  And plenty of people still like AC/DC.  Their live show is one of the best around.

I don't understand why everyone compares the fucking Darkness to GNR.  Where the fuck is the comparison there?  I have heard the Darkness cd and think its pretty fucking lame.  Its nothing new and its nothing different.  Its the same old repetitive fucking rock music that comes out everyday.  I think glam was over in the 80's.  Why would anyone want to bring back the worst genre of music ever?  What this world needs is a good fucking rock band, that doens't sound like everyone else.  But, guess what?  It aint never gonna happen.  The world is full of rip offs that somehow find a way to get played on the radio. smoking smoking

I love the darkness. It's not like they're trying to be GNR so we're just talking apples and oranges here. I bought permission to land and while theres about 2 tracks i dont completely LOVE, the rest are great. I don't care about their image, i'd rather see some guys having fun than the rest of these bands acting depressed and bitching and moaning in every song. (Linkin Park, anyone?)
And not to mention, their guitar solos kick major ass.

Hey all! Anyone remember me? I used to post here quite a lot and I'm back!

Anyway The Darkness are good and they are fairly similar to GnR, but GnR are in a different league. I think The Darkness will be popular for about another year then they will all need to get to their local job centres and get a job. Although it is too early to say. I can't see them sticking around as long as GnR, that takes a classic album like AFD.

If you learn one thing today:

GnR > The Darkness

End of story.

I dont think The Darkness will need to visit another Job Centre in the lifes somehow!

And comparing them to GNR is in fact ludicrous, one is an active touring band who have released an album in the last year and worked there asses off to get there.

The other is a hired bunch of contracted musicians fronted by a reclusive perfectionist.

Rip me all the fuck u want, there is no comparison, when GNR do something again, then there is room for comparison.

The Darkness are unique in a world full of processed manufactured pop shit and dire, boring i hate my mom bands.

Gnr are unique in the music industry for doing nothing.

They both play hard rock, that is the comparison.

The Darkness is all a big marketing machine, it is pretty obvious they would become huge. To be honest though I don't think they have the song writing skills or talent to stick around.

If you think when they are all going to be rich when they disappear by the end of next year then you are sadly mistaken. The only way you make you make big money in the industry is by sticking around, like Metallica and GnR, with classic albums that still sell by the truck load, who can still fill stadiums 20 years down the line.

The Darkness will not achieve this, so it looks like its off to Lowestoft job centre.

If you think that Permission to Land is anywhere near as good as any of the GnR albums then that would be foolish.

Um, I don't think they'll be looking for jobs. If you looked past the USA, you'd know they are quite a big deal in the UK. And they fucking deserve it. I don't care what anyone says about their songwriting, I think it's fucking great. The Darkness is 100x better than anything on MTV and quite frankly, I think they're a breath of fresh air to the music industry. They're very talented and I think they're doing fine. I really wish America would give them the push they need because they're the best thing out there right now, in my opinion.

The Darkness and GNR are both great....though incomparable lyrically, Axl is by far greater than Justin Hawkins. Still, The Darkness have an oppurtunity to be what GNR once was...a real rock band that cuts thru the current shittiness of the current music and reminds us what real rock-n-roll can be.  Axl could've reclaimed the mantle, but it seems unlikely now, IMO.

It's fair to compare the Darkness to the EARLY EARLY days of GNR when they were in their glam phase.

But AFD is a gritty hard rock take-no-prisoners kind of album. It sounds nothing like Permission to Land which sounds more Queen / hair metal-ish.

If the Darkness release a pair of double albums that sell millions, then it's time to compare them to Guns  Grin

it is important to evolve in your music.  you do not want all of your songs to sound the same.  It really bugs me when people say I like their first album but i hate the rest of their music because it is different from what i am used to.  Musicians change their styles as they get older.  Usually when they first start out they have a lot of rockers and they rebel because they young and don't care about anything, but they change as they get older.  Guns and Roses is a great example of this.  AFD was a huge rock album but what really but them into legend status is the use your illiusions cd's.  The best musicians have a variety of styles that they can write songs and perform their music.

I don't think this could be further from the truth.  Ask any casual rock fan about a GNR album and they will answer with AFD.  UYI didn't make them legends, AFD did.  UYI was and is considered a good, yet dissapointing followup to AFD.

:)it might be fair to compare the two as far as the glam look goes but not when it comes to talent darkness is a joke they don't have enough talent to release a pair of double albums that sell millions

AC/DC is a good example of what not to do. ?They have been doing the same thing forever, its kind of tiring to listen to them now because all of their music is the same. ? Compare them to Aerosmith, they have changed and I think that they are still awesome. ?I am so glad that GNR has changed, and their new album will be even more amazing than the rest of their albums. ?(hopefully)

AC/DC is a good example of what not to do?  Do you know that AC/DC has sold almost twice as many albums as GNR in the US?

And Aerosmith are a shadow of their former selves, they know that, they don't even right their own songs anymore.

I have seen The Darkness live.  I must say I was quite unimpressed when I saw them live at Wembley Stadium.  But saying that, I have seen them live on tv and was very impressed.
