This doesn't piss me off (yet).

If you are gonna parody rock/ rock frontment - then pick the best
- thats what he's done.   If its supposed to be Axl - its not purely Axl...
like YoungGunner pointed out - the scarfs are definitely Tyler's trademark and Eminem definitely knows that.  Is it Brett Michaels?  Ha!  Brett Michaels wishes he was selected to represent all rock frontmen.  Plus no Ce Ce Deville = not Poison.  Too bad he didn't go with a third guitarist to play what - yes, definitely looks like Angus Young.

The Buckethead / Slash 'appearances' is Eminem doing what he does - being a wiseass (forget that BH is not in the band anymore -  the last America saw BH he was in GN'R)

If this is the "My Band" single.  "All because I'm the lead singer of my band..."  it fits.  Again, Eminem is demonstrating the "lead singer" plight/stima.

If Eminem's intent was to 'make fun' of (current day) Axl he definitely would have gone with braids.  Eminem usually goes after those who talk shit in the press/media.  What has Axl said of late?  He's got nothing to use against Axl as far as that goes.  Nah... I think he's just being funny/clever.  I don't see him going for the throat here - think of it as a 'tribute' of sorts.  Eminem making fun of old school rock in a humiliating manner would alienate a lot of his fans / potential fans.  I mean its 'all good' to make fun of pop stars...  they dont' share an audience he's even trying to reach or would otherwise appeal to.  I know Eminem is Hip Hop / Rap - BUT the fact remains that he is white and for this reason one of the very few rappers who is played on rock radio  (The only ther rap act I hear on my local rock radio station is The Beastie Boys)

Anyway, When I heard "My Band" I thought of Axl.  Especially the line about the girls throwing up their panties!   Grin   Axl IS the quintissential "lead singer"  ok

Edted to add:  DEspite all the above - I would prefer if NO ONE EVER tried to impersonate Axl or used him in any joke - but again  -  Eminem trying to represent Rock frontman without using Axl Rose would have left him with who?  I'm serioius!  Who would he have been able to use.  Brian Johnson?  Plus the Buckethead /Slash situation had to be to tasty for him to resist.  Cuz its like WHO GIVES A FUCK WHO THE GUITARIST IS - ITS ALL ABOUT THE FRONTMAN!!!  HEHEHE Tongue

ive pointed out this before, but axl and eminem do have alot in common. they and bob dylan are my favourite musicians. but here's something else:

-they both had a fucked up childhood with alot of similarities

-they are both pointed out in the media as the worst of bad guys

-they both write both sensitive and aggressive songs

-they were both accused of homophobia

-they are both originally small town white boys who both went to l.a. to gain fame and success

-they both have deadbeat dads who have tried to contact them because of their fame and sucess and generally a fucked up relationship to their parents

-they have both become icons for rebellious youths

they both have caused a stir in the media by controversial statements and stories of their childhoods

-i think there's more but i can't think of it right now so i'ma come back later

It was only a matter of time before that stupid cunt (& that's swearing) took the piss out of Axl Rose.
He's dissed people in his music to sell records.
It wouldn't suprise if he take's the piss out of Axl on his new album.
The guy is a fucking nob - his music is irritating.
I know people (proper fans) who saw him at Milton Keynes Bowl (UK) & said he was fucking awful.

Fuck off Eminem.

that ignorant statement just stripped you off all credibility. eminem is one of the best rappers AND artists out there, and his crew ain't too bad either.

Hey, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but believe it or not, not everyone shares your opinion that Eminem is a great "artist"....

And by the way, in the list of the comparisons between Axl and Eminem, we could add:

Axl sings when he performs live and Eminem fakes it (if you could even call what he does "singing", which you can't really and that makes it all the more pathetic that he needs to lip synch...).

Quote
Usually when somebody is the subject of a parody that means they "made it". No big deal.

"Um, I guess I need to inform you of this, but Axl already has made it..."

No shit sherlock! I'm not saying this is something new for Axl. I'm saying that anybody who is big is going to be made fun of.

Then you shouldn't have made your first statement. It implies that "Axl made it" because Eminem is making fun of him", just a stupid statement on your part.

And no, not everyone who is big is going to be made fun of. People like Eminem pick targets that they know they can get away with. Mocking someone like Brittany Spears or the Backstreet Boys goes over well with his fan base. And it's the same with Axl. Like the Howard Stern type stuff, people are making fun of him now so he's an easy target to mock.

And as far not getting upset someone should tell your idol, Eminem that. Poor wittle guy got all upset when some humor was being poked at him...

I think S-tone has it right.  This isn't a "diss."  It's a joke.  Also, Eminem's got some good stuff, not great in my opinion, but good stuff.  These artists have more in common than you'd think...especially when you're talkin' socio-economic levels of fan bases.

Listen, this is free advertising if anything.  Sit back, watch, and have a laugh!  Chinese D. will be here soon, I hope!

Axl sings when he performs live and Eminem fakes it (if you could even call what he does "singing", which you can't really and that makes it all the more pathetic that he needs to lip synch...).

There are A LOT of lyrics in his performances - if anyone has got an excuse to lip sych its rappers like him who a lot of the time are delivering virtual tongue twisters...  Not that I think it makes for the best live performance...  or that I think its a good thing - I'm just saying I can see why he would do it.  Fucking up in the middle of one of those um.... whats the word?  flows?  well, it would be catastrophic - I'd think much harder to cover up / recover from than when one is singing.  With actual singing you have the music to get you back on track / find your place... but when its just a repetitive beat in the back you will be oh so very very lost!

Again - no lip synching is much more impressive and would be better (of course).... I'm just saying I can see why he/they'd do it like that.

Of course there is always the arguement that 'if you've performed the song a hundred times there is no reason that you should fuck it up / forget the lyrics....  yet, again - if you do fuck up when doing the type of performance that he does - it'd be an unholy disaster.  (thuogh I'm sure some people feel that Eminem's performances are an unholy disaster already hihi )

Question:  does he use a telprompter also?

People like Eminem pick targets that they know they can get away with. Mocking someone like Brittany Spears or the Backstreet Boys goes over well with his fan base. And it's the same with Axl.being poked at him...

Really?  You think so.  Hm.  I'd imagine that he would have to recognize that Britney and the BSB is an entire different audience than Axl's/GN'Rs.

If he goes further than what I'm expecting / hoping he's not - he will be losing at least one fan.

Watch where you be stepping Eminem!  hehehehe  Grin

great post eva i was about to post something similiar

this is actually not an insult to axl but actually a compliment

imitation is a sincere form of flattery and Eminem couldve chosen any rock frontman but he considers axl the best so he is parodying him

if anyone has paid attention to d12's "my band" song

its about eminem getting all the fame and glory and the band taking a backseat to him which is similiar to GNR cause the song fits the GNR situation

so he chooses axl and a little of steven tyler and just the great rock front men of all time cause in that video that is what he supposedly is, a great frontman of a band

eminem is awesome, he is a genius and for him to think enough of axl which im sure was a hero of eminem's growing up i consider it an honor, and is a great way to introduce new fans to one of the originals Axl Rose

As expected the musical performances were a heart-pounding component of the evening. The Beastie Boys were the first act to grace the stage with a hot screen video mix of their single "Ch-Check It Out." D12 with Eminem had the crowd roaring with their parody of a rock band - featuring Eminem dressed as famed Guns 'n' Roses frontman Axl Rose.  Angry

So Eminem is the new Kurt Cobain.

The reaction for this is just as pathetic as the reaction to Conan O'Brian's comments.

I mean as far as the reaction he gets from the people on this board.

Conan made a small joke about Axl after the VMAs and there was an assault of "Fuck Conan!", "He sucks shit!", etc., etc....

I gotta admit the song also made me thought of when Axl in the RS interview in Feb 2000 was talking about how "it didn't go over to well when we are in the airport and people want my autograph (etc.) and the guys (Duff I think he mentioned for an example) were saying "What am I... Linoleum?"   Grin

I had to laugh though when in the lyrics the guys talk about why bother going to soundcheck cuz the his mike always works and theirs is messed up.... cuz thats one thing that even though he was the leadsinger -  Axl still couldn't depend on his mike to work.

If Eminem does the snake dance I'm gonna  rofl
