Musician David Bowie underwent an emergency angioplasty to open a blocked heart artery in Germany and is recuperating, his spokesman said Friday.
Doctors discovered the blockage after the 57-year-old Bowie sought treatment after performing in the German town of Scheesel on June 25, according to the spokesman, Julian Stockton.
A pinched nerve was initially cited as the cause of shoulder pain that forced Bowie to shorten a June 23 performance in Prague and eventually to cancel the remainder of a European tour.
Stockton did not specify the date of the procedure but said it was after the June 25 show. Bowie left the clinic in Hamburg, Germany early this week and is now with his family in New York.
Stockton quoted Bowie as saying, "Can't wait to be fully recovered and get back to work again. I tell you what, though, I won't be writing a song about this one."
The British Bowie, who was born David Jones , gained stardom with his groundbreaking 1972 album "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust," following it up with albums including "Young Americans" a few years later and "Let's Dance" in 1983, another huge seller. His latest album "Reality" was the centerpiece of his tour.
He is married to the supermodel Iman.

Yeh i heard this news today myself. I am a huge Bowie fan Love the guy to bits. He always seems so unstoppable, with his musical out-put and touring, his energy is boundless - he puts people half his age to shame.
Imagine a world were David Bowie never existed, that seems such a boring place. Get well soon DB!

I like how they gave a quick biog to hide the fact they haven't got much of a story.

Show some fucking respect! He is 57 just done 100+ dates has had 2 albums out in the past 2 years - great fucking albums I may add.
His contribution to music is fucking limitless. No other artist has put out the volume of work he has with such consistant quality.
You do half of what he has achieved first, then come back and start your insults.

To say his songs are quality, is nothing but an opinion. I don't share your opinion. I have the opinion that he's a stupid old man.
Jesus, if he can't stand on stage less than a 6th of a year, you'd think he'd give it up.

And how long has Axl stood on stage for the past 10 + years?
Not digging at Axl but my point is Bowie has worked almost non stop for 40 years. You dont have to like his music or him even - to see that and show some respect at a sensitive time/issue.

Er..u picked a strange time to have a go at him - he almost died
I'm not a massive fan of his music but i admire his drive - at 57 he's allowed to have a few health problems
And the reason he doesn't just give up is because he loves what he does and millions love him for it.....
If a member of Electric Frankenstein or Cathedral or the Dangerfields had a health problem would u hurl abuse at them and tell them to retire?

Saw him at the Isle of Wight festival and it was easily one of the best shows I've ever been to, his voice hasn't lost it and he performs fantastically, he was much better than 90% of the shit bands that performed that weekend.

Saw him at a festival in Finland less than a month ago, and agree 100% with what you said. Rarely are you left with such a good feeling after a gig.

Yeah Bowie respects his fans and loves them, that is why he is still out and about. Most performers like to sit back and relax with their money. Bowie atleast gives the fans what they want. If the fans didnt want a huge bowie tour how come its selling quite well.
Get well Bowie.

Damn, should prolly visit threads when they are more...up-to-date.
It's great to know db's feeling better again, his heart condition didn't seem to hold him in the bed for too long:)
Touring apparently is over for a while tho..
I saw Bowie's last full-lenght reality gig at the end of June in Provinssi Rock, Finland. And goddamn how it blew me away!
Bowie had approximately gazillion times more stage energy and attitude than anything else I've seen during this summer. Possibly the most impressive gig I have ever seen, even. His voice was in great shape and you could see the backing band has been there for years. Chemistry between them and Bowie worked really well.
It's a shame Bowie's music nowadays is miles away from even trying to be experimental or exiting. It's fun to listen though. But just that. There hasn't been anything truly interesting in the air since
1. Outside
....Wich btw is an extremely underrated album! It should be regognized as one of the milestones of mid 90's industrial boom.
Then again, pretty much everything Bowie did during 1970 and 1981 is absolutely amazing. I just can't listen Low, Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane enough! Amazing stuff, amazing!!
Boy, that misfit guy sure seems like a class-A asshole.
