Sweetness is a virtue and you lost your virtue long ago

« on: June 17, 2004, 10:44:44 PM »

I think FTP has the potential to be a really huge crossover hit in the same way SCOM was.  I'm not saying the song is as good as SCOM (its not IMO), but it could create so many more fans for VR resulting in more album sales and maybe it will put Contraband back in the #1 position sometime in August or September (assuming it falls out of 1st place before then - which it obviously will).  Sustaining that kinda of success and publicity over a 4 or 5 month would allow them to tour arenas by October.

If they release FTP in August and play it well live on the MTV Music Video awards on August 29th, they could push their success to that next level.

Does anyone agree?  Or am I being to 'fanboy'ish here?

Number 10 on the album should be the next single if they want to go the ballad route.

What makes you think they'd play it at the MTV awards when they haevn't even played any ballads on the tour?  Ballad phobia maybe?

Smart move, great ballad with a great chorus! Agree with you Tyrod, this COULD be a big crossover hit, but I hope they aren't releasing it strictly to get that coveted teeny bopper set Tongue

Make no mistake, if FTP doesn't crossover and thrive at Top 40, Classic and Real Rock formats, the album could very well lose it's steam.

Just my opinion, but I don't think FTP will have near the success as "Slither" with the likes of KROQ and the Modern Rock market in general in the US.  This song isn't the mid tempo type tune that the likes of Audioslave have had success with at that format, it's a full on power ballad...

It'll be interesting to watch...

KROQ started playing Fall to Pieces today. I almost crashed the car when I heard it.

BTW, the dj was like this is the first time we've played kansas in a long time....in the form of Velvet Revolver

That's great news, I didn't think they'd bite.  KROQ is obviously behind VR, which is huge as well...

The Kansas comment is hysterical... rofl

Thanks Jiz, keep us updated on the KROQ front.

I'll try, but its really hard to push that button when everyone else wants classic rock.

This is the type of song that could get airplay on Edge, Classic Rock, Modern Rock, and Mix stations...  It's the perfect second single.

I say following this up with another hard rock song, and then closing off with You Got No Right is the smartest move.  It's probably the best way of keeping the record consistently fresh in people's minds.  Although YGNR is the best song, it's not as accesible as Fall to Pieces IMO.

 ok

Hope they shoot another video soon.

I don't think the band wants to put out 2 ballads in row... I think they want to be known as more of a rock band... Though there?s no way for me to know this, so the scene you described is totally possible.

I agree with that 100%

If FTP is a big hit and they play MTV VMA'S they will no doubt take their career and the album to the next level.

i played some velvet revolver in my apartment last night with my buddy in the room and the tv on while he was working on his computer, and when fall to pieces came on by halfway thru the song he was whistling along to slash's guitar riff.

he knows who VR are, knows i like em, recognizes the songs on the radio, but isnt necessarily a VR fan and hadnt heard FTP before, so i think its a good sign that it kinda subconsciously was able to get into his head so easily  ok

I agree AxlGunner.  As simple as the lyrics are on this song, the guitar work and the soothing nature of the song with attract a crossover fanbase that should launch these guys into the stratosphere.

I am so impressed by the promotion of this band.  Somebody has their act together here.  I would say that the promotion has been flawless.

FTP is boring, real boring.  And the lyrics are just not that good. I heard it on the radio the other day, and I was like meh.  I still think loving the alien should have been the next single, its the best song on the album.

Someone on the VR boards says that the video for FTP is to be released on August 10th... not sure of the person's credibility though.

I actually agree with you a bit here Dave.  I think the lyrics on FTP is a bit boring, but it has more of a potential to have a crossover appeal than LTA.  I, too, think that LTA is one of the best songs on the album, and I'd love to see them release it eventually.  However, I think at this moment, releasing FTP is their best move.  Let's face it, they haven't made any mistakes with their promotion yet so they must know what they're doing.  I think you'll see that releasing FTP puts them into arena gigs by the end of the year.
