I saw the new band three times... In my honest opinion...
On the older songs, the band really didn't seem to have all that much outstanding chemistry.
Fortus, Stinson, and Finck seem to have bonded a bit... particularly during
Rocket Queen
.
The only interaction that I've ever seen Buckethead actually have with the other members of the band, in terms of the old songs, was during his solo for
Knockin' On Heaven's Door
when he would stand up on the top stage near Brain.
However... for the newer songs... most notably
Chinese Democracy
, the band is fucking great live.
They all look like they are a LOT more into everything on the newer songs, and they just look more relaxed.
So... in a short answer to your question... on the older songs, I think the chemistry isn't nearly as strong as it is on the new songs.

I would have to agree the chemistry was amazing for the new material.
I saw them in Toronto and London, Ontario back to back nights.
Axl was bang on.
The band was excellent. (I was front row both times)
I think the simple fact that Axl is not seen that much in concert or in interviews or videos etc. makes it easy to judge "if he is on or not" I think if we thought about Ozzy or Steven Tyler with 10 year gaps in between preformances we might notice more obvious changes.
Robin and Richard and Tommy were all right in front of me and they seemed to continuously smile and joke with Axl.
To be honest I never would have thought they were not the original line up if I obviously did not know better.
There were 16-25year old people around me who were blown away by the experience you could tell they had some doubts at the beggining but were floored by the end.
Let's just say as we were all leaving the arena in the middle of the worst snow storm and the whole street was singing patience out loud it was the coolest thing.
P.S I was front row in 1991 for the GUNS Mettalica show also so I have seen both bands twice once in 1992 Dust and Bones as well.
See ya

I wasn't in any show of the new GNR.. but I think people in Rio 2001 and during 2002 shows was expecting to see Axl and was connected to him, not with the rest of the band.. My perception of the shows I have seen (videos) is that BH on his mask and Finck strange look seem so cold and make no connection with the crowd.
Personaly I use to feel more conncected with the old members, right now I don't even care if anyone of them is in or out the band... The only thing I care about is GNR name and of course Axl's voice.. I only hope this band keep the name on the highest position of RN'R memory.
This new band looks like there's no chemistry.. everyone in the band is different and in the stage you can feel that.

aw... I love hearing stuff like that... sounds like there was an amazing vibe. Very cool...
i know when we walked out of the HOB gig we were all in a state of euphoria... we knew we had just been part of a magical night... it was like having lived a dream
at the Hard Rock we were again floored... the band had gotten so much more tight
MSG... they were amazing.
and to answer your question... yes they have chemistry... I think the fact that the EIGHT of them hold it together so well is pretty impressive.
EIGHT.... thats not a small cozy #

yes it was
something I don' t believe 8 musicians could pull off if they were not in synch...
8 musicians on a stage without cohesion would be a disaster

I was at the Pittsburgh show. As stated, all eyes were on Axl for most of it, and the rest of the guys seemed kind of lifeless. But then after Patience, which seemed to somewhat lull the crowd into a state of calmness, the confetti cannons blazed and they tore into "Chinese Democracy", and the whole place went insane. The band was definitely more into it than anything else, and everybody in the place was out of their seat. That proved that this band is capable of anything, and definitely has a ton of faith in their original material.

I think the band has amazing chemistry, especially Richard, Tommy, and Axl, and then Finck when he's in the mix.

correct.
chemistry and feeling are things you can't buy with money, contrary to "band members" or "employees"...Axl should think about that.

the Original Guns n' Roses was a real band
the "new" Guns n' Roses is just a band with a singer, and 6 or 7 "employees" around him who could be fired at EVERY MOMENT. That's not how Rock n' Roll is or should be. People are not stupid. we see it. we feel they don't have "it". Nothing special. look at the PARIS'92 show and you'll understand how Rock n' Roll should be played.

Izzy & youngunner are already duking this out in the Brain/Buckethead thread.
All eyes are naturally on Axl whether he's on stage with a band or a circus.
If Axl performs well, people will say the band has great chemistry. If Axl sucks, people will say GNR sucks. It's all about Mr. Rose. Everything else is irrelevant.

yeah right, it's all about Axl and that's sad. Guns n' Roses should be a band like it was back in the days. now, it's just a one man show with 8 clowns around him.
"I didn't listen to Guns n' Roses" (Brain, before joining the band)
"Guns n' Roses wasn't the kind of band I listened to" (Stinson)

Don't them clowns, you're fucking insulting these guys and everything they've done musically over the years. What have you done? Nothing.

the only things they have done musically over the years are...solo albums.
I will change my mind IF I feel that "chinese democracy" is a sincere record.
MONEY IS NOTHING, FEELING IS EVERYTHING.
Rock n' Roll isn't a thing you can buy. it comes from your soul.

Weren't you leaving this board?
You seem to try to turn as many threads as possible into whiny threads about how the new band sucks. How about you read the topic and stick to it? If it doesn't say "Buckethead vs Slash", then don't talk about that subject in that thread. Same thing if it doesn't say "The new band is a bunch of hired clowns"....
If you're gonna keep up your behavior, maybe we can make you leave. Getting tired of telling you to stick to the topics.
I can understand that threads evolve, that's not the problem. The problem I have is that some people try to turn a lot of threads into whining about the new band, the "classic" BH vs Slash debate etc.
