Top 5 Slash Guitar Solos05.14.2010
With the release of Guns N? Roses? 1987 masterpiece debut, Appetite for Destruction, the world was introduced to a dangerous-looking, top hat-wearing guitarist with one name who was mesmerizing and ferocious on the guitar.
When GN?R exploded onto the scene, Slash quickly became one of the preeminent guitarists of the day. More than 20 years later, it is apparent that history may hold Slash as the single most influential guitarist to emerge from the Hollywood/Sunset Strip guitar-hero scene ? and that?s saying a lot, because the talent on display during that Aquanet and lipstick heyday was impressive. Los Angeles was ground zero for the best and most technically gifted guitarists rock has ever known. The Guitar Institute of Technology was right there in Hollywood, and its hundreds of well-coiffed students could all shred a million miles per second.
Beyond the fact that Slash was the antithesis of the legion of glam pretty boys wearing their mamas? makeup and trying to be the next ?it? guitarist, there was something fundamentally different about him that set him apart from the rouge-tinted din. Not only could Slash play circles around those pretty boys, but his playing was honest and raw and dangerous. It wasn?t all about speed on the fretboard with Slash, though he could give you that, too. He made music that you knew would stand the test of time. And it has.
After leaving GNR, Slash continued making great music, first with Slash?s Snakepit, then with Velvet Revolver. Slash is back in full-force with an epic new album titled Slash. The music is raw and blistering and everything you would expect from one of rock?s all-time great guitarists.
