Just got back from the show

FUCKING AWESOME NIGHT

A few cool moments too.. Axl playing part of the final crescendo of November Rain with his BOOT is something you don't see every day. Bubbles was cool too.. I'm too hyped up to type anything reasonably coherent right now.. but fuck was that an awesome night

Cheers

Just got back and what a show!

23 songs, more than I expected.

Anyways, I got some videos of Jungle/SCOM/Liquor and Whore and Chinese. They are all over the place but they should be online soon.

I also got some pics, i'll put them up tommorow.

Also, section 323 needed to rock out more. Holy shit people just sat down the entire concert. It was pathetic.

Excelent show, almost 3hrs, even close to considering it the best show I have ever been to. The band was def in high spirits and it showed throughout the show.
Don't really find a need to post a full review, as most of the details about the show are already posted, I'll just my post notes.
Went to the show with my sister, brother and his girlffriend
Jack Astor's for dinner (Also where we had dinner before the '06 show)
Showed up at the arena around 4:15. Less than 25 fans waiting with us
Bought 2 shirts, will try to post pics later
While waiting we heard the soundcheck [Shackler's Revenge, If The World, This I Love]
Got on the rail, right side, in front of DJ and Tommy.
Danko was ok, only recognized a few of the tunes.
Baz kicked ass, got a setlist after his show and got it signed by Johnny(Baz's guitarist) at the end of the night

Could see Bubbles out of costume walking around backstage and to the side of the stage throughout the night, along with the groupie chicks and then Baz and his band during GNR's set.
During GNR's set DJ threw multiple pics our way, my bro caught one and gave it to his gf and my sis caught one, but I was unable to catch any of them...Funny note though is that my sis' pic is a Tommy pic and the other is a Bumblefoot pic.
Near the end of Maddy Axl punted his empty water bottle and I caught it Smiley
DJ gave 2 of the end-of-show shots to the guys standing next to us... Sad
My guess is close to a sell-out crowd, and was prob the best crowd I have been a part of, mainly due to no crowd surfers and no moshing

Yeah. Imagine being able to multitask.

Does it bother you that I'm AT a GN'R show and you're not?

You =  rofl

No it doesn't bother me. I find it rather ridiculous that someone's out at a GN'R show and wastes his time discussing shit on a forum, that's pretty lame hihi

I hope they can get back to that start time if for no other reason than to just minimize potential backlash.

Ali

i totally agree.

there's too many haters out there who wait with bated breath for the slightest scrap that they can use to throw bricks at the band. notably late starts are immediately pounced upon to start the "axl doesnt care about his fans, what a diva" chorus.

if he didnt care then he and the band wouldnt work so hard to pull off such fantastic shows. but all these facts get swept away and reviewers dwell on the time issue for half the review instead of highlighting the excellent performance.

people who are on the fence can get swayed by this chorus and end up never giving the band a chance.

such negativity in no way diminishes the quality of this band but it would be great if GNR shut off as many of the predictable openings for the haters' cribbing as possible. in the earlier shows, they were squirming because they didnt have anything they could exploit but theyre milking the time issue to the max.

Yes, that is exactly my point.  In no way is the quality of the show diminished by the late start.  But, don't give people any reason, no matter how insignificant, a reason to focus on anything but the quality of the performances.  The fact is, while there may be perfectly valid and understandable reasons why the band gets on stage late, most will not take the time to consider that.

even when they started at 10:28 some reviews called it late.  Undecided

this critic on the other hand says "they'd probably be disappointed if he did show up on time."
Review: Guns N' Roses in Ottawa
for laughs
the writers opinions don't count as he seems not to have listened to the album the tour supports (or any zep song as he related sorry to zep) but to be out of step with the reality, which is evident with so many comments below the article from the people that paid for their tickets and actually saw the show. Indeed, some critics need their ears, if not heads, examining.

thanks for the updates and good reviews!

I'm not saying there is some perfect solution where everyone will be happy.  But the earlier that they can go on, considering all the factors that are reasonably within their control, the better so as to MINIMIZE any reason for backlash.  Not eliminate, but as I said, minimize.  Certainly, no matter what, some will complain.

« Reply #57 on: February 02, 2010, 01:16:34 PM »

I posted this in the other discussion thread so I might as well post it here too.

And another tour discussion thread gets ruined by useless whining over and over about shit that the band is obviously well aware of.

NEWS FLASH:  WHINING ABOUT IT AIN'T GONNA CHANGE SHIT!!!

It is what it is.  It has been and is continuing to be what it is.  Why?  Because it just is.

What's really fucking hilarious is the one's doing the most whining always include the obligatory "but it doesn't bother me."

GypsySoul, your attitude is entirely unwarranted. we're all here on this forum to share our views. neither Ali nor I fall short in any standard of love for the band and we're entitled to offer our constructive suggestions. I think its fairly offensive to try to label people's views as "whining" when they are making their posts in the most positive spirit possible.

unlike you, i most definitely dont think that GNR's response to fans' words boils down to "things are never gonna change, it is what it is". quite the contrary, I feel that GNR has taken concrete measures to address many of the common complaints on past tours (from both haters and loyal fans).

from making setlists very varied.... to doing incredibly long sets.... to Axl building up his voice and energy to remarkable levels.... to reviving the bandanna and straight red hair....to becoming more accessible through Twitter etc. etc., they have neutralized many of the predictable charges used against them and by doing so,  they have intelligently deprived haters and band-wagon jumpers of their ammunition.

i dont know about you but i like watching the haters in pain because they dont know what to attack. the reviews from the early shows have been a lot more positive than the ones for the later shows. some reviewers/fans are deliberately negative but for those in a more neutral 'lets see how it goes' attitude, little things can help secure them as solid fans.
