Ron Thal - The Bumblefoot Story (Part One)

Bumblefoot (aka Ron Thal) is a recording artist and international touring artist from NYC with nine albums and one DVD released since 1995 - he has also been the lead guitarist for Guns N' Roses since 2006. Fronting Bumblefoot as lead singer/guitarist, the music is hard rock, bordering on quirky and experimental. Known for his stunning guitar-work, Bumblefoot has been on the covers of guitar magazines around the world and his guitar playing can be heard in the Spanish guitar soloing of Jessica Simpson's "Irresistible" dance mix club mix to the theme song of VH1's "That Metal Show".

The punky guitar riff of SpikeTV Network's "MXC" theme song, in the background of MTV's The Osbornes, The Real World are all Bumblefoot creations. He works out of his studio in Princeton NJ where he collaborates with artists as a songwriter/producer and writes for publishing companies, video games and TV shows. Bumblefoot is a volunteer for the MS Research Foundation (www.msrf.org), a non-profit organization that donates funds directly to Multiple Sclerosis research. He a good humanitarian and loves to chat.

This is part one of our retrospective with Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, who will be headlining 13 Canadian concerts as lead guitarist for Guns N' Roses. Ron's personal life and solo career are the focus of this part, while part-two will focus on Guns N' Roses.

What?s it like for you when you?re home from touring and rehearsing with ?

What?s the hardest part about touring?

Is it like that every time?

I understand you have a house full of cats?

Could that be the reason why all the Ladybugs and Salamanders come over to your house?

So what is the origin of the name Bumblefoot ? it was a band first, correct?
When did you decide to actually call yourself Bumblefoot, and why?

The name works for you doesn?t it?

Does your mother call you Bumble or Ron?

You didn?t vandalize anything as a kid did you?

What were you like in school?

It?s been a long time since "The Adventures Of Bumblefoot", your first release. Are you happy with your career? What's changed in all these years?

Is there any new Bumblefoot music or live gigs in the works?

Do you read your Hate mail?

Tell us about your activity as a producer and record company mogul.

You were at a birthday party for the publicist for Penthouse Magazine.

What are the Top 10 things?

Are you a KISS fan?

You also give back to your community. Are you still involved with an MS charity?

Now you said earlier that you donated a car - What kind of car was it?

Part-two will focus on Guns N' Roses

I'm sorry, but if someone could transcribe some of the important parts, like Funky did, I - and a few others - would be really grateful. Smiley

Ron Thal - The Guns N' Roses Era (Part Two)

[Audio of Ron's answers at the link below]

How did the GNR rehearsals go earlier this month?

Can you tell us where you rehearsed?

Why aren?t you coming to Vancouver on your Canadian tour?

Was it the Olympics that effected why you?re not coming to Vancouver?

The upcoming shows in Asia and Canada will be the first GNR shows since Chinese Democracy has come out. Are you excited?

How did you end up getting the GNR gig in the first place?

How did Don?t Cry end up as part of your guitar solo on your first GNR tour?

Do you enjoy playing the old GNR stuff?

Do you have a favourite GNR song?

Did you have creative input while working with GNR on Chinese Democracy?

The production of Chinese Democracy is top notch. What was that experience like?

Was it challenging to work on the GNR album and release your own at almost the same time?

Fans seem to be obsessed with your guitar collection. What is your favorite guitar to play?

Do you have a different guitar you prefer to play in concerts?

Do you have your own guitar room?

Have you picked out the guitars you?ll bring on tour with you when you come to Canada with GNR?

How will you, DJ Ashba and Fortus share the guitar parts?

Can you tell us at all what the shows going to be like ? can you give us a teaser?

Yeah, he has some fun with this interview.  Here are a couple of answers that are good...

How did you end up getting the GNR gig in the first place?

I lost a bet.

Can you tell us at all what the shows going to be like ? can you give us a teaser?

The show is gonna suck, we're gonna playing only songs you don't know, we have a 45 minute piano solo that Dizzy's going to do where he just keeps hitting one note over and over, no lights, we're all playing in the complete darkness, you can't see us.

How will you, DJ Ashba and Fortus share the guitar parts?

Around noon we get together in some field with swords and we just start swinging -- and the last man standing gets the guitar solo.

And he adds... Smiley

Do you have a favourite GNR song?

...I've been rehearsing like 35 songs.
