I don't know whether this is worth mentioning but there's an Axl mention in Slam magazine. Slam is a hoops magazine and in every issue they compare a NBA player with an artist/celebrity. Here is the transcript:

Which NBA player are you?
by Sam Rubenstein

Axl Rose is Stephon Marbury

Tough road

Stephon came from a dangerous world and the attitude he needed to survive gave him some of the fire that fueled his rise. Axl was reportedly abused as a child, plus had some anger issues that helped him write aggressive and powerful music.

Indulge me

A lead singer is a lot like a point guard. They run the show and make sure everyone gets their shine whether it's solos or open court dunks. In Axl and Stephon we have two of the great self-indulgent leaders of our time.

Combustion

Steph has the potential to be a dominant NBA force, taking over games when the moment strikes him. He also has the potential to disappear and drag a team down with him. Axl was one of the electrifying performers of his era and an even better recluse.

Family feuds

Axl doesn't seem to get along with anyone be it Slash, the deceased Kurt Cobain, Tommy Hilfiger, all the big names. Marbury completed the amazing daily double of fighting with Larry Brown and Isiah Thomas, who had already fought with each other (about him!)

Paid in full

Guns n' Roses most recent album, Chinese Democracy, finally dropped, so Axl is cashing checks once again. As you read this Steph might still be in purgatory, or on a new team, but either way he's making more than $20 mil this season for his troubles.

Well that's about it, moderators feel free to merge or delete. The only thing I want to point out (apart from that Stephon Marbury is one of the most overrated players of our time but SLAM has a long history of praising him because he keeps it "real" rofl) is that SLAM is heavily hip hop influenced. I've been a long time subscriber and it's the first time I ve seen a rock n roll mention. Plus the article has some photos of Axl along with 1 photo of CD. When I 'll have some more time I'll try to scan and post.

I actually pictured Axl as more of an Iverson.

That is almost worse than being compared to Marbury.

I didn't know your career average of points per game was 3rd behind only Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan.
