Gotta agree with that.

A lot of things need to be done before and after the show to make the actual show you and I see possible.

People often forget that...

jarmo is the 9th member of GN'R!

There has to be more than just set-up and breakdown of the stage. Like, packing the stuff up and loading it all on and off the planes, etc. It would probably blow our minds knowing what actually goes into the unleashing of a tour from step one.

I always wondered if bands use cargo planes just for the stage, equipment, etc.

Yes, band crews are huge... A band I used to hang around with here (famous only in Brazil) had 25 people besides family/girlfriends that they used to take on tour. They used one huge 2-floor bus to travel and two trucks with equipment. Roadies used to do the packing/unpacking taking everything to the trucks but probably with bigger bands there's people hired just to do that. The truck drivers were the funniest motherfuckers on earth!

It's a hard work indeed. What always impressed me the most was the lighting crew doing their thing, climbing on those huge stage frames and hanging from there like acrobats to adjust everything perfectly. And the roadies, always so patient and smart. I remember when this artist was pissed about the previous band getting on stage late (and so he had to cut from his set to meet a curfew). He did, but played a very aggressive song and at the end of it he threw his guitar violently at the pit, meaning to break it. His 1963 Statocaster! Fuck he'd regret that for quite some time but one of the roadies, quick as hell, went and grabbed it. It was the fastest move I've ever seen in my life! And the manager... the man seemed to be always in a hurry and in a bad mood, but that was because he was always running around taking care of minimum details. Actually he was the sweetest guy, very perceptive of the band's need and he did everything he could to make them feel at home at every concert! I've been away from their circle for a long time now but he still remembers me. How sweet! Even the guy's girlfriends used to have their part. They were very nice to the fans and used to help them get to the backstage after the concert. Or when they couldn't do it, they hanged around the fans, watched the concert from the floor, telling stories and sharing experiences.

I'm saying all of that because I do know how crew people are important. As you get closer to them, you fall in love for each one in the same proportion. I don't know the size of the gang that travels with GnR, but each and every one of them is essential and deserves our praise!
