Probably because they'd be incapable of playing the new songs

tribute bands (rip offs) do not need to blow smoke about why they are not playing 'new stuff'...it's because they can'tcrying  It is a lot easier to mimic Slash/Izzy/Duff/Steve (Gilby, Matt...) than it is to try and copy Buckethead/Bumblefoot/Fortus/Finke/Stinson with Dizzy + Pitman playing keyboard.  With respect to Brain or Frank, its not that hard to rip off someones drum work convincingly/passable.

Its like a fat guy boycotting marathons because they are not a true test of his ability.

I find it easier at times to play blistering runs like bucket head rather then emulate Slash's often unique phrasing....  Maybe I am alone on this.  Plus Bumble's solo's don't grab me at all.  Its just a wank fest.

This has to be one of the funniest threads here......I agree with the statements about the musicians who play in tribute bands that can't write their own material. (Maybe that might not apply to all of them but it is true that after a certain age if you're not attempting to write your own stuff you're probably in a cover band or a tribute band!!!! lolo)
And to come out and say something like that is absurd.......The real truth of it is that if you are a A+ tribute band and are that good you will learn the new material of the band you're tributing. The reason is that A+ tribute bands make anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000 a night!!! So I doubt those bands would say something like that as far as learning new tunes from the artist they are tributing......unless they are below the A+ category.......... beer

A GNR Tribute band that played the new stuff would need like 14 members!
