Hi people!  Smiley

As the search for the new lead singer continues, I wonder how the band will sound from now on, I mean, VR was a STP with stronger guitars, funny how Scott was able to make his imput above the others.
Let's see if now we can have a more elaborated sound, with longer songs, longer solos and variations like those from Use Your Illusion. I mean, will we ever hear a Stranged kind of song in Velvet Revolver or this part of GNR was Axl's touch only?

well, if they had a piano player (which they don't) I think longer songs would work

GNR was clearly heavily influenced by Axl - he even had to convince Slash to play Estranged live aka Axl's baby

if they added a keyboardist I think the dimension of the band would improve

or they could give teddy zig zag a call and break out the harmonica

if VR chooses to continue they clearly need to take it to another level and not just settle for the 30 second guitar solo inserted at the same point in every song

unfortunately I think they will stick to the bullshit version we have now

VR didn't sound anything like STP besides the vocals and vocal harmonies.  The Deleos wrote a vast majority of STP songs, not Scott.  If the music sounded like STP, it would have been much more varied, experimental, and dynamic.  I just don't think the individuals in VR meshed, therefore the music was boring.

You also have to remember that the way a band sounds depends majorly on the vocal style and delivery. You dont know what you will sound like until you have a vocalist because bottom line if they arent comfortable to sing a particular sounding song then its best to leave it alone

Yeah, can they replace him, too?

Imagine Jimmy Chamberlin on drums? With the right front man/woman they could be the new Who.

I preferred Contraband, which seemed a little heavier-Matt and Duff seem to have a good thing going and far as a chemisty with the bass and drum sound-I think sticking to that would be cool

Appearantly, if you listen to LAD that's a good indication of the material.. I asked Duff about coincidences between LAD and Contraband (in particilar, Bomb vs Do It For The Kids) and he said they used some Izzy ideas/riffs..

Based on the quotes of Duff and JT Longoria, what happened is Izzy brought a cassette with his riffs/ideas to the VR guys, with them arranged and recorded those songs (at Rumbo's) and then went with the same cassette a few months later to Nomad Studio's with his own band and they worked out those same ideas to songs/arrangements aswell.

well then it seems they should just hook back up with izzy even if its just in a manner of writing songs, seeing as how he doesn't like to do huge tours

if they get a singer that can actually SING instead of just singing in that same monotone voice throughout every song I think they will be in good shape....and alot less boring...

Most of the VR songs lose their shelf life because of the same song structure each song.

it'll depend largely on the singer, but I think the direction they wanna go in is more old school.
wouldn't hope much for any UYI-Estranged songs.
