4) Appetite For Destruction--Guns n' Roses: It's a bit shocking, I know, to think that a wholesome, fun-lovin' group such as L.A.'s Guns n' Roses would choose album art that some might find offensive. The artist Robert Williams was already well-known in art circles and as long as Guns n' Roses were some struggling young glam metal band, no one really cared what they put on their album covers. But once it was apparent that G n' R would likely become a major cultural force destined to take over the minds and wallets of young America, if music retailers would stock the album, it was time to remove the raped and battered woman from the album's cover before the rest of society became infected like TB.

I would love to hear the story of how Axl/Gn'R even found this painting?  If they were living in a storage unit at the time, was this guy in the unit next door?  I bet Mick Wall could make up a great story about it!  Seriously though...whats the connection?  Did Axl just stumble upon it in a storefront or display?

I think Axl found a postcard of the painting.

I was hoping it would be some cool tidbit...perhaps like:
Interviewer:  So mick what do you know about Axl and this painting?
mick:  (bad english accent) well you see, Axl was doing undercover work for NASA at the time...
 hihi
Thanks anyways...Sometimes the truth is just very ordinary.

Even more baby genitailia than the Nivana baby (the reason given in the article)  and treading/dancing on 'em, good album though... Great version of "You've lost that loving feeling" on it.

Absolutely, great track; played it endlessly.  In fact the whole album was full of gems - 'Circus of Death' the b-side to 'Being Boiled' being one of the them.  Remember seeing them on TOTP and being transfixed by Phil Oakey and that haircut.   Cheesy  Incidentally, one of the babies on the album cover was supposed to be the child of Slade's Noddy Holder; don't know which one though.

Saw them TWICE on the same day at the IW Bestival, along with the Specials and Gary Numan (and does he do dark stuff now or what...) all were fantastic, Grace Jones wasn't bad either. Never know that about the baby, you live and learn. An album ahead of its time, (to please Jarmo) a bit like AFD, still relivent today, my nephew often asks for it (AFD)to been played when he come to my house and he's 11, and getting into music now.

There are a few albums I'm surprised aren't on that list.. Hell I still remember people going nuts over the cover of Megadeths album "Youthanasia." The original cover of WASPs "Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)" too (though that was an EP, not an album.)
