I like A minor more so than C major

Slash, i have loved you and your style/playing for....well, since the late 80s. I now am an accomplsihed musician b/c of your influence and b/c of GnR.

However, over the past couple of years, i've noticed your playing change. You're starting to sound like us mortals. You're playing bored, old, and tired blues licks that we all have heard played by mediocre players all around.

What ever happened to your melodic solos? What happened to you "speaking" thru your guitar. What happened to those great legato runs, those killer 2-step bends, the "story" behind your notes?? You always had a start, middle, and conclusion to every lick you played.

Now, all i hear is generic, general, mediocre guitar work....whats going on man?!?!?! You're the most recognizable guitarist in the world, in my opinion. Don't let the "music scene" dictate HOW you play. Please, do not play it safe....take those chances you always used to take. Think about the solo to Coma, the lead riff to Estranged in the 1st half, the November Rain solos, the outro work on Nightrain....lets take Contraband....to me, that was you...somewhere in the middle of greatness and where you are now. The solo for Slither is classic Slash, the work on the ballads, the riffs on the other tracks...they are all pretty good...and typical Slash.

Please man...get back to that playing. Not saying to get all wasted and twisted on drugs/alcohol again, IF THATS WHAT HELPED YOU IN THE PAST. if thats the case, then leave that garbage behind and be the player that you are now, sober. (if you are sober lol)

But, i think we all want the old Slash back. Take f-ckin control man, if Scott or someone else in the band has an idea as to how YOU should sound, take their advice, but play it YOUR way anyway!!!! You are the best, you are still the best, but show us all you are going to go back to that ICONIC level. You can do it dude!!!!!!

I third that. Slash used to kick total ass, but now I can barely recognize him. It's kind of disappointing that he has changed so drastically, and it'd be great to see him bash out another epic GnR-esque solo.

And for Domi: Axl wrote all of Slash's licks, Slash just played them. rofl

Dozing Slash blocked out Revolver troubles with painkillers
(Saturday July 28, 2007 01:15 PM)

Rocker Slash was so hooked on painkillers during Velvet Revolver's tough recording sessions for their new album Libertad, he kept falling asleep in the studio.

While bandmates Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum were in rehab together and group tensions reached an all-time high following a difficult world tour, Slash tried to keep the supergroup together - but the pressure turned him onto drugs.

And he was so far gone at some points, he even contemplated joining McKagan and Sorum in rehab.

The guitarist tells Rolling Stone magazine, "There was a lot of negative s**t going on. Some of it was band stuff, some of it was home stuff... and I went on a little f**king OxyContin binge for, like, two or three months.

"I had set a date to go into rehab."

i'm not agree with this post. In my opinion the guitar work slash has done with Velvet Revolver is really great. There are some really great solos : slither, headspace, let it roll, just 16, gravedancer, dirty little thing, can't get it out off my head, messages ... great riffs: stb, diftk, sbqm, superhuman, set me free (well this is matt but slash playin' on this one is amazin'), for a brother ... some really great slow stuff: ftp, lta, gravedancers, ygnr ... some great middle/bridges/ guitar breaks: american man, for a brother, get out the door, illegal i ...

I can understand what you're talkin' about. i love Gn'R too. I always love his stuff with Guns. They sounded dangerous and excitin' but in my opnion Vr do it too. In my opinion his work in VR is great, we're not in the 80's and he isn't in his 20's but he still plays like a motherfucker, the best chance you can see this is goin' to a VR concert

Slash's playing is just fine . Don't need to be a fucking show off ...He still adds that something special to the songs he plays on while not over doing it.

Don't let the "music scene" dictate HOW you play.

I know it's just one sentence from your post. But should WE dictate how Slash should play?
Maybe it's his choice to play those "bored, old, and tired blues licks".

Apart from that sentence: nice post!

i thought that since the second Snakepit LP.
the first one was great, with a lot of cool solos etc.
after that, except one or two collaborations (the single with
this woman, can't remember her name) who sounded great...

but with the new VR album, i changed my mind. it's a truely
guitar oriented album with a lot of very good moments & solos.

so it's encouraging. the bad part is the rehab thing, but it's another story...

Even if he has/hasn't, that's one song out of two albums of material, and one that wasn't even on the physical CD.
