yes, her son is the head of the protestant church in england. As far as i'm aware that makes her pretty high up in the christian faith. As bush is a dyed in the wool charlie-church that makes her worthy of respect in his eyes.

Why do the Presidents bow down to the Queen of England, their former enemy?

Quite simply , protocol .

Too , when practicing diplomacy , all are considered as equals . It has to be that way . How could one negotiate with another that was in a superior position .

Maybe I should rephrase: Why do the leaders of a sovereign country, the most powerfull in the world I might add, feel the need to bow down to another country's head of state, who just happens to be their former enemy?

Do you see any state leader bowing down to another in any case, except this one, unless it's a consequence of defeat in war?

is this a serious question?  Its called "respect".  I would hardly view Britain as a "former enemy".  EXTREMELY silly thing to say and probably the last thing that comes to mind when I think of UK/USA relations.  They are easily our greatest ally in the world.  Except for Wat-Ever...he LOVES the US
