MIDWINTER, the French symphonic heavy metal band which is fronted by 20-year-old female singer Myl?ne Genoux (photo), will release its second album, "The Glassy Waters", on April 21 via Thundering Records. A song from the upcoming CD, "Illusion", plus MIDWINTER's surprising cover version of GUNS N' ROSES' "Sweet Child O' Mine" is available for listening on the band's MySpace page.

The follow-up to 2004's "Fountain of Youth", "The Glassy Waters" was produced by Pierre-Emmanuel P?lisson (MALADAPTIVE, CIVILIZATION ONE, ex-HEAVENLY) and features influences that range "from electro to thrash metal, from rock to speed metal," according to a press release.

MIDWINTER is currently looking for a new guitarist. Interested parties can contact the band at midwinter@online.fr or via their MySpace page.

Hi.

First off: You put your post in the wrong category. I think you will see it removed from here and placed into the "nice boys dont play rock'n roll" category, because that is where it belongs.

Secondly, I was not that impressed by your cover version. Turning Sweet Child into "symphonic" metal like that, with slash's  leads played with a synthesizer... aggh. just slaughters the song really. I like the voice of your female vocalist for what it is, but the style she is using doesnt fit this song at all. This is a common mans love song originally from a man to a woman, not that it couldnt be turned the other way around, but the elegant and unemotive style of singing she is using just doesnt go with the lyrics at all.

... when the grunting came along I was mortified. You completely lost me there. Very bad decision to put those into this song.

I understand the concept of your band being symphonic metal, for which you might be good in that genres merit, but covering a classic rock song like this with the inherencies of symphonic metal is not a good idea in my book. It just sounds aggravating, like a bad joke.

All that being said I will listen to your original material because my favourite bands come from france at the moment: M83, Elend (they are french arent they?) and Air. Brilliant bands, beautiful country. Jean-Marie Le Penn (spelt right I hope) should go to hell though.

Take care, and I hope you find yourselves a new guitarist soon.  Smiley

p.s. If this was posted by someone outside of the band: fuXX you. do your homework, you naughty little thing. this was a completely inappropriate choice of a forum for your post/add.

It actually sounds more like EBM than metal in places, but the choruses are good.  The solo is done really well, I think.  Cradlesong is quite good.

You know what I don't like about symphonic metal?

1 - Female singers

2 - dadadadadadadadadadadadadadadrums... And rhytm guitar. NOTHING BUT EIGHTS! Boring man!

3 - Synth

4 - orchestra within a rocklike arrangement (Alright, NR, and I don't wanna miss a thing, but there IS a difference. They could use it.)

5 - Synth orchestra within a rocklike arrangement

6 - it's taking itself too seriously

7 - Speed... and dadadadadadadadrums

8 - GROWLING

9 - Opera singing

10 - The harmonyzed leads...

All in all, the song was butchered... Too fast, and boring.

But I've gotta admit, I've hit the fucking deck at the "ayayayay" part at 4:10 ?rofl It was worth listening ?hihi

A very nice take on a GnR classic.  I really enjoyed it.  I actually enjoyed the deeper vocals that the previous poster didn't seem to appreciate.

Hey - let's try and sound like Evanescence but move the vocalist to the back of the mix because she can't sing!

Seriously, this is why I hate today's music.

No originality.

A few thoughts:

1.) Why, oh, why does every band that wants to cover GNR choose Sweet Child?  Don't make your name with someone else's hit!  Pick an underappreciated track, and breathe new life into it.

2.) Why does every woman cover this song and then change the fucking lyrics?  Fuck you.  If you can write one new lyric, write more.  Then write a new melody.  Then it's a new song!

3.) This is bad.  It has no balls.  This kind of metal makes you realize that not all metal has balls.  puke

I agree wholeheartedly.  SO many women cover the song and change the she/her to he/him.  It really bugs me for some reason.  Either choose a different song to cover or sing the song the way it was meant to be sung.  When I'm driving along in my care and Paula Abdul comes on I don't change the lyrics to "Forever your GUY".  Wait, did I just say that out loud?  Just an example mind you.

I hate the the synths  Sad

Vocalist is good, but unoriginal, and the band's style doesn't fit this type of song
