If I was to do a FLAC rip of the mobile fidelity gold disc series, would they sound as good as they do on the gold disc on a standard CD as they're ripped in FLAC?
Please let me know, I've got 4 mobile fidelity gold discs, one master sound super bit mapping gold disc, and a test pressing CDR of a Buckingham Nicks cd, numbers 24/50.
Jus trying to figure out if they would, as I am going to be listing them on eBay in the future.
No they will not sound as good as the original discs, many on this forum will argue otherwise but quality is lost when you rip and burn the discs.
Unfortunately your average PC drives and burners whilst being great thay are not perfect, and there are many things which can have an impact on the final result. The drives used, different software packages and the ripping and burning speed being the biggest issues.
There was an article in an Australian hi-fi magazine last year where the reporter ripped a disc to his PC in lossless format, he also sent the same disc of to a professional ripping/conversion service to do the same thing. When he got the discs back he was amazed at the difference between what he ripped on his PC and the results of the professionally ripped disc, Stating that the disc ripped professionally sounded significantly better.
But you would probably need a proper hi-fi system to tell the difference, doubt if you would notice anything on your average run of the mill stereo system.
