"Guilty Until Proven Innocent" Today's society

Why is it, anytime someone is simply "accused" of something, half the people will without even knowing the facts assume the person is guilty?
This seems to be a growing trend and its something I do not like thanks to personal experience.
Its like? knee jerk reaction, anytime u see a headline of someone being accused of something, its easy to automatically assume the person did it and to me that isn't fair.
Look at Kobe Bryant or countless other celebrities that have been involved in scandals, hell look no further than the front page of your local newspaper.
Any theories on why people automatically assume the worst and never seem to give anyone the benefit of the doubt anymore?
I know people who were cleared 100 percent in a court of law and people still whisper under their breath and spread half truths.
I never assume anymore until all the truth comes out, I use to until it happened to me, then u really see how unfair it is.
Just being accused can ruin your reputation and life forever regardless of the outcome.

I just got done thinking about Shawshank redemption and then I thought about this thread.
The A. Idol chick is also in the that boat of being falsely accused. These bitches at work take their anger out on her all based on stupid-ass web-sites that have put fake porn pics of her up. She can't sing...big deal. A lot of these chicks can't sing. At least she gives us men something to look at.
D, don't let other people get to you. F that. If you didn't do what they say you did, that's there problem. Yes, it makes sh!t uncomfortable, but it usually fades away. I think we've all been in a similar situation. Hang in there.

I think its a first impression thing. We tend to believe the first thing we hear. The media also portrays things the way they want to to get the story.
I agree with axl4prez about the idol girl. I am truly shocked that real journalists even made reference to the porno pics that were not her. i didn't know that "alledgedly" meant you could say things about someone. regardless of the non porn pics shes still jersey trash. but the amount of people who are going to think the BJ pics are her isn't fair.
other people who got bad reps:
michael jackson - i really think hes innocent, a wierdo, but not a child molester
The Ramseys (how fucked up when they "caught" the guy who "really killed john benet" and HE got as quickly accused as they did and it turned out HE was "innocent" too - and a fucking wierdo as well".
I also think people LOVE to see celebs and famous people fall from grace, just makes us feel better about ourselves - we want to believe bad things about them so it makes them more human.
