upload speeds for torrents

Hi, I am downloading from dime and really want to seed but I can't seem to get my upload speed beyond 30kB/s now I have finished downloading.

I have a 5meg broadband conection and was wondering is there anything I can tweak to make this speed faster??

Google 'speed up bit torrent' you probably want to forward your ports.

Though I don't know if that applies to uploading as well as downloading.
