Lies without audience dub?
«
on:
March 15, 2007, 06:24:43 PM »
Hello all,
I remember reading somewhere on here that the first half of Lies (aka Live Like a Suicide) had the audience dubbed on, and that versions of the songs without the audience were available? If so, I don't suppose anyone out there might be willing to upload them?
Thank you!

These recordings are all over the net, including many GNR forums.
Do yourself a favor and go get them.
The sad thing about it?
GNR never released a real live album on CD.
"Live Like a Suicide" is not live and Axl re-recorded his voice for "Live Era", so...

Axl and Slash rerecorded some parts of Live Era not all of it. Most bands do it

Slash guitars on Live Era sound the same as Slash guitars on bootlegs. I don't think he re-recorded anything. If he did it, he did very little and he did it very well.
Axl, on the other side, did a terrible job. Anyone that is used to GNR bootlegs can tell the difference. His re-recorded voice is awful. The job he did was awful.
No band does that. Bands usually do great or at least nice jobs when they re-record live parts. And they re-record like 1% to 10% of the parts, usually correcting a mistake or something that sounded bad. Axl? He re-recorded like everything. He did the worst possible job.
Actually, I have never listened to another "live" album where 99% of the vocals were re-recorded on studio. Never. I don't think it has ever happened before. Live Era is a first. Axl is a first. Actually, Live Era has got to be the most pathetic "live" album ever.
And one of the reasons that makes Live Era so pathetic is that GNR live shows were the best ever. Not releasing a real recording of those live shows is completely absurd.
Did you read the Zakk Wylde words about Axl on that recent edition of Guitar Magazine?
"I remember jamming with Axl Rose, and he was like, "Look at Fred Durst and Eddie Vedder. They're on the cover of Rolling Stone. Man, they've got something good going on."
I go, "Your joking right? That dude wears a backward baseball cap, and you're Axl fucking Rose. Are you outta your fucking mind? Eddie Vedder can't lick your balls on a good day!" [laughs]
I'm not joking man. I am stating fact. Whatever trend was popular, Axl wanted to do it.
If that is true, it can be a hint to help understand why Axl re-recorded Live Era:
Axl Rose doesn't know how good he is.
That would also explain why Axl does not release his new album.

ages ago I read an interview with slash where he said that he was called in to do a few overdumbs for the album, but after listening to it figured almost all of it was good as it was.....

I listened to Live Era just a couple of times. It is now collecting dust on a shelf.
That album just doesn't sound like Gn'R at their full strength. I prefer to listen to bootlegs instead.
So, can someone upload Lies without the audience?

Sammy D1st:
you can find them on gnrsource.com. The downloads section of the forum has a thread called: "Jumpin' Ax Flash: Niven Demos A+ (192 kbps) [mp3]". Thats what your looking for.

Mmmm.. I disagree, I think is a kick ass live album n' if Axl re-recorded the 99% of the vocals (I doubt it in that percentage) I think he did a great job beacuase I never heard such a kick ass version of WTTJ like the one ion Live Era, n' that's the track when Axl re-recorded most parts I think... the other tracks? well in the most cases they're great or the greatest version I ever heard (for example Nightrain or Yesterdays), By The way, in
www.gnrontour.com
you can find the sources of each song... go n' compare

Limulus:
Your suggestion is great, but in Live Era you have a band playing live and one guy, Axl, singing in the studio, trying to pretend that he is singing live. That is just awful and it sounds terrible. And, even worst, the record is called Live Era 87-93 and like 80% of the songs are from the Gilby days (1992-1993), so you have this really sad sound of a band dying. I stick to my boots, as I believe you do too.
yioryo:
No hate. Just sad reality. The best band in this fuckin' world should be able to release at least one real - and great - live record. They didn't. They released two fake live records. That is sad and pathetic. I think this is a big disrespect to me, to you and to everyone else that likes and support GNR. But hey, we have the bootlegs. And they are MAGIC.
alejoyp:
I don't know how many bootlegs you have listened to, but I strongly suggest you to listen to some MAGIC recordings like CBGB's 1987, Pasadena 1987, Ritz 1988, Japan 1988, Rio 1991 (both nights) and Indiana 1991. Please don't get yourself an MP3 version of these shows. You deserve better. Get the real deal - nice silver disc, factory-pressed CDs. Or lossless copies. There you have it, live GNR. Best band ever, playing live!

Luciano, with all the respect, maybe you think you're the one that have listened more Gn'R bootlegs, I don't know how many bootlegs i have listened but they are many... n' I own all of the gigs that you mentioned, they're not rare they are very classic, in fact they're were the ones that I heard first (among with Paris '92 n' Argentina '92 n '93, Paradiso 87 n' Japan 92).. They sounded great, especially Ritz 88, I disagree with Indiana '91, good performance by the band but i think Axl voice isn't in their best shape, especially in the hard-rockers song like WTTJ... I keep in my point but it's nice to see we have different points of view
Just wanna let you know that I heard a lot of Gn'R bootlegs n' especially those that you have mentioned I have it in silverdisc (I don't even know that exist something like mp3 in those times
)

No I don't think that. What I think is: I have lots of GNR boots and I love to listen to them and they are the best live recordings that I have.

Wow, it is amazing. I respect your opinion but I can't understand how can you like "Live Era" album better than those classic recordings... Really, understanding that is beyond me.

Jumpin Ax Flash. Contains Reckless Life, MTTC and Mama Kin, as well as a dynamite version of You're Crazy, and the best versions of Heartbreak Hotel and Jumpin' Jack Flash i've heard (soundquality wise).

I never knew Live Era was re-recorded actually lol
Is there any web articles out there about this album, maybe a little history to what we know happened, and how and why this album came about? I've always been a little puzzled as I remember it just appeared one day in my local store
