Whats ridiculous is its one person who made the comments right? how does that represent ALL of the UK!?!??! There are racist people on American reality TV, doesn't mean EVERY american is racist.
but maybe someone in the UK can answer this question - are racial tensions really strong right now in your part of the world? The US is pretty multi-cultural so while there are pockets of racism or racist people here and there, its not really a national thing. How is it over there?

Speaking as a white person yes it is bad general comments made about people of a different race are frequent and harsh, a lot of the blame in my eyes goes on the government and the media for the imagrant system here that basically is a shambles and lets them get away with many many things because we dont have laws to sort them. I will say England is a racist country in many ways obviously not every one is but a good majority are.
I personally dont have a problem with different races etc but i do have a problem with them trying to force thier religion into our country in such a way it affects our own religion and beliefs

How can it possibly affect your own beliefs?
And yes, there is a lot of casual racism in England. It's fuelled by crime, the media and a lack of tact from many Muslim representitives. The more people debate it, the worse it seems to get.

from my experience there's a lot of secret racial prejudice but you only hear it when you listen into whispers.
the point is Jade, Danielle and Jo did somethings wrong and just because other things werent dealt with doesnt mean they cant stop this because theyve done injustice.

I think what's different in the US is you dont really see women walking around in full head-to-toe muslim garb with their faces shrouded. Apparently, this has caused a lot of tension in the UK, at least based on the articles I see in the NY Times and though Google News. But there was another piece I read which claimed that all this racist talk was simply to boost the ratings of the show....has it worked?

just a question
where do you feel the racism comes from
is it mainly young or mainly old people
(Sorry for the following language to anyone offended its used to demonstrate something)
see to me in England pretty much everyone whether they are White Asian Black Brown half caste are all racists in thier own rights i know of black people that will call Pakistanis Pakis you will get Indians calling Black people niggers even black people call themselves it to each other but it all seems like closet racism and in the main part most of it it harmless as a slip of the tongue but what is also happening in our country is everyone who feels offened by something gets involved so if a wrong remark is said to someone that is gay fat ugly smelly hairy bald you can be disaplined where does it stop. Racism needs to be stopped but we need to draw the line somewhere

Well, a few years ago everyone said "fuck the thought police, we should be able to say what we want whenever we want" - so everyone did.? Now 'nigger' is used all the time, sometimes as a joke and sometimes not.? 'Gay' is used as an insult
all the fucking time
, probably because of South Park (which I do love, btw).
A lot of
racist
people have now taken the view of "fuck the thought police, if I wanna have a problem with Muslims then I bloody well will" and
this
is not cool - this is a problem.? Now nobody really knows what they're allowed to say anymore.
The bottom line is TREAT EVERYONE AS INDIVIDUALS.? Don't pick on someone because they wear a vail or because they have a different religion or were brought up differently.? You should treat everyone with RESPECT unless they do something pretty fucking extreme to warrent your contempt.? This is the lesson someone needs to repeatedly thump into Jade until she fucking gets it.
Wow, i'm really quite pissed - but not
one fucking typo!
Peace out bros and hos

I only skimmed through the article, so perhaps I missed something, but unless some kind of governmental action occurred because of the comments, the quote you posted applies just fine:

typical British media have created another storm. When Jade gets evicted tonight (and she most likely will) - there will be no public audience (there ususally is). Bomb threat has been called into the studios where the house is, and death threats recieved by the producers against Danielle and Jade. Effiges of the shows producers have been publicly burnt in India.
Reminds me of the cartoons in Denmark last year. This country is a mess over racial divides. Some are completely racist and anti ANy immigration whatsover (check out the BNP party), whilst some get on with multi-culturalism, but arent afriad to label and stereotype given half the chance. I believe older British people are inherantly a bit racist as they have lived through an era where Britain was vast majority white and change was hard. my gran has made racist comments that do not sit well with me - but she is of a completely different generation and I have no idea what it was like in her life for her to have these views. These views are not up for discussion with her though! Young people in Britain get conflicting media views, people are walking on egg-shells here as sometimes the smallest remark will be construed as racist if made against someone of another skin colour or different country of origin - although the comment may not have been anything to do with actual racism. Racism is cried too often here, and this is the case with BB (i believe).
BUT - straying a litte (sorry) - I dont think there have been racist comments in BB house. Jade is not at all bright, and has capitalised on that image for the best part of 4 years to the tune of an?8million personal fortune (magazine deals, fitness dvds, perfume range). Britain loves an underdog and Jade has been a loveable idiot in the media for years. however - this has shown some true colours - and I think her behaviour has been absoutely FOUL.
It smacks of bullying at school, one loud ringleader who cant listen to reason - has to go to 100% anger, and is backed by giggling sheep who cant speak for themselves.
I think british media and political correctness have escalated this into a "racist" issue - whereas i think it is more to do with the fact that the people involved are thoughtless. Jade has been a foul-mouthed bitch on this show and has certainly bullied Shilpa.
and yes - the ratings for the show have risen dramatically since this all kicked off - what a surprise.

What is most ridiculous to me is that this is ONE PERSON on a dumb reality show - how is she representative of an entire country?!?!??! Shes not an elected official is she? Who is she in the first place?
When mel gibson or kramer goes off on jews and/or blacks you didn't see Israel burning effigies of the Road Warrior!
Celebrities and reality "stars" do not have representative voices.
its really funny in a ridiculous way how outraged people are by this.

OK I confess I havent read all of this so sorry if its irreleveant, but I want to put a word in for Jade. To be fair, she hasnt said anything racist. people are focusing on her coz shes a chancer and a chav, which she is.
But so is that footballers girlfriend, who has said things like Shilpa should go home (I think we all know what she meant, altho I amit that doesnt necasarily have to be construed as racist), and that she cant even speak english properly. Erm.. she speaks english with a bit of an accent. does this sound familiar to anyone who's seen the show...? So that dumbass cant speak english properly either, by her own definition!!!
However, I think our police have better things to do than spend hours watching video of something that no one can conclusively say includes racist bullying. Theres certainly a class issue and Shilpa has come across as a bit aloof, but thats because she is different in many ways to the other girls, and she probably doesnt like them enough to try to mix with them. I wouldnt bothe rif i was in there, god no!

He didnt call her white trash. he said that she is an example of what people would call white trash but he did state that he doesnt necessarily label her white trash.
