thats bullshit, companies want you to work at the speed of light b/c of the internet/email - but they can't let you surf the web on your lunch break?
ridiculous.
obviously you shouldn't spend hours surfing the net, but employers should trust their employees.

Do it anyway.? Get fired, then you can collect unemployment and have all day to play online.
I'm kidding of course.? I actually feel for you.? I'd be bored to tears if I couldn't get on the internet at work.? In fact, if my company tried to micromanage me that much, I'd probably just start looking for a new job.? Who needs that crap?
i must admit i do abuse it but in the same token i get all my work done so i can, ah well timeto learn new things to do to pass the time
there was no mention of practical jokes so ill try them instead

Start drinking coffee.... Or start drinking more.
I've been to workplaces where there was no Internet access at all. I guess because they didn't want people surfing at "the workstations"....
What did people do at work before the early 90s?

Actually worked a full 8 hours or pretended while reading a magazine that was hidden underneath the paperwork.
I guess you will need to more breaks and go into the resstroom and use your cell phone to get on the internet.

In the advertising biz this was known as the golden age of advertising. you'd put together your plan, mail it (not email) to your client and then get taken out to 3 martini lunch for 3 hours by vendors and other biz partners.
There was a lot less work and stress back then. now b/c we have instant access to everything, everything has to be done yesterday if you know what i mean.

We supposedly had a new policy like that implemented at the start of the new year at my job. Got the big long corporate e-mail about it, and no-one has enforced it yet.
Side note: My boss just got fired today as well.
