I think some of u are too young to have lived through Vanilla Ice.
Yeah u can look back now and say what u want to say, But when he came out he was huge and he was anything but a joke.
Black people were so jealous of Vanilla Ice for stealing their genre that they did all they could to expose him.? He also made some bad career choices but he didnt have anyone to model his career after.
Having the first ever RAP single go to number 1 is an amazing accomplishment. I don't care what anyone on here says
When u are the first to do something, that makes u a pioneer. He wasnt the first WHITE rapper to have a number 1 he was the FIRST RAPPER
My god man. I was quite alive and very well remember the Vanilla Ice fad and it was embarrassing even then to see anyone walk around listening to that crap. It was a one hit wonder at that like hundreds of other songs. The funny thing was that it had a stolen sample (he didn't obtain permission to sample any of the songs that he did on the cd), his moves were stolen from a dance troupe and he claimed he went to an all black school in Miami, when it was found out he came from an upper class suberb in Texas.
As for black people being jealous........HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Fuck man as for being a pioneer, he was one, I'll give you that. But not of white rappers or rap music.........but being a laughingstock. If you're a pioneer, your legacy will show....as for Mr. Van Winkie.......I think the story speaks for itself. I remember in 91 I was listening to GNR, Metallica, RHCPs and Motley Crue....not fucking Vanilla Ice. The only rap I cared for back in those days was 2 Live Crew.
