nah metallica stagnated a long time ago.

tbh im looking forward to all the new bands coming out, rather than old, most of the old bands have past there time for me and i think they are ruining the history and repurations they created.

Metallica and GN'R will slug it out for highest sales, but I think Chinese Democracy will blow Metallica away in terms of quality.  I heard Metallica's 'New Song' at Download and it's nothing special.  I think they owe it to Trujillo to have one last go, you never know he might spark them into life after what must be said is many years of disappointment album-wise.  IRS, Better and Madagascar on the other hand rule  peace

Looking forward to Megadeth's new album too, hopefully the new guys can add to Dave's excellent music/song writing.

Considering the new Metallica album is being produced by Rick Rubin they might put out something decent, and probably better that St. Anger...

Metallica - Produced by Rick Rubin
GnR - CD.
VR - Late 06/Early 07. Weiland is the X-Factor on this one. The band will be there, can Weiland 'bring it'. Me thinks no, but I've never been much of a fan of his or STP. He is the Wildcard on this one.
Audioslave - New track released Tuesday. (Hmmm 3rd album & countless singles since 2003. You see Axl, that is how you lead a band).
Army of Anyone - STP band plus Filters singer Richard Patrick. I think this will either sink or swim, either we'll never hear much about it, or it will be very big.. I think the first single will be big, and I'm calling an unbeleivable acoustic song from these guys.
Smashing Pumpkins - Supposedly they're back in studio. Hopefully he pulls out some decent riffs a la 'Siamese Dream'

To think, all this, plus Tool, Pearl Jam AND RHCP already came out with their albums.. Couple of old heavyweights throwing down. I hope Metallica redeems themselves and goes out with a bang! I think it may be their last.

I only hope the new Megadeth album keeps that old spirit of speed riffs and that anger feeling that always Dave have.

You forgot 2 releases from Neil Young and one from Tom Petty. Plus a possible new release from VR. And don't forget The Boss.

The new Neil Young was excellent, as was Springsteen's.

 - The wonderful Elvis Costello/Allen Toussaint collaboration (New Orleans-inspired River in Reverse) completes this trilogy of protest records.

 - Tom Petty sounds like he's heading back to more Wildflowers territory, with Jeff Lynne on the boards.  With any luck, we'll have a countrified piece of acoustic sweetness (check out "Square One" off the Elizabethtown soundtrack, as it will appear on the new record).

 - Bob Dylan's also got a new record in August.  Modern Times.  I can't wait.

....And then, there's Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell 3: The Monster is Loose.
Oh well, as Mr. Loaf himself once said, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
