What is the best way to add a photo gallery to a website?

Hi everyone,
Does anyone know the best way to add a photo gallery to a website?  I want something integrated into my website (as opposed to linking to a site like photobucket).  I was going to just write the html for a table and set them up that way, but I wanted something like gnrfrance.net has, where the photo pops up in an external window and you can scroll through the pics through the same windows with the back and forward arrows.
I'm very new to this web building stuff and would love to hear any and all suggestions.
