I think GNE would be better suited by taking a up and coming band like Wolfmother with them.

Bands like Bullet for my Valentine and CKY have their fans, but are generally not the same as the average GNR fan. I think the average GNR wants a hard rock band they can sing along to as an opener...

Kind of like when GnR opened for Aerosmith hihi

I went to one of those shows in Philly and at the time, GnR was just about the biggest band around because of SCOM

Slashedtires, I agree.  They need an up and coming band with a built in audience.  Bands like the Strokes, the White Stripes, Kings of Leon that have sold decent amounts of albums and will draw people there.  The new Alice in Chains would be a good fit too.
