I'm the son of rage and love.

« on: June 01, 2006, 07:31:19 AM »

I've been waiting as long as the frequent posters here for some new material from Axl, it's been 13 long years, but now it seems that the wait is over. I got really excited by the european tour, and I got my ticket as soon as the tickets were out for sale. So, I'll attend the show in Oslo Spektrum, Norway, at June 28th.

However, I'm very curious about the band, the new songs, Axl's performances and all that, so I had to sneek peek at some of the various video-clips that are lying around the net, and some things bother me.

First of, it doesn't look like a rock n'roll band. The whole show seem to lack the energy that is needed, the band members just walk around and do their job, and Axl is just a bad copy of what he used to be. It seems to me that he makes a big point to show that he is the same old, but he isn't. Sunglasses, the dreads...it would be more convincing if he could just cut that out and don't act like he's twenty years old. I watched a clip where the 40+ year old is dancing around the stage singing "I Feel Good", now, what is that?!

We have been waiting for 13 years, Axl's had a lot of time to come up with new material, and he's still doing "Knockin' on heaven's door" and "Live and Let Die" - coversongs! Why? WHY? I never liked KOHD, but does he really have to sing that folk song throughout his whole career? Why not some "Achy, Breaky Heart" as well?

The magic, the attitude, the energy, the great rock n'roll personalities are all gone, and I'm seriously considering to sell my ticket and just remember G n'R for what they were.

Good for you.

EDIT: Just so you know - a lot of people post the exact same stuff and it always turns into this old vs new stalemate that never goes anywhere. Everyone is sick of it and the mods are probably going to lock your thread.

Being part of a vocal minority of people here who want to bag on the new band does not make you special or interesting.

Sorry to come off as rude, but a lot of people are long time Gunners fans and have heard this stuff for the last 5-15 years.

Jarmo: The music has always come first, I love AFD, I grew up on that album and it has been the soundtrack of my life the last 17-18 years. But, now I'm afraid the new band can't deliver the songs live, they can play them, but if they lack the heart and attitude, the show wouldn't be as good as it could be. That's what bothers me.

If you don't want my sceptical comments, then fine, but I've paid $72 for my ticket and I don't want to be ripped off, that's why I'm expressing my concerns.  Lips Sealed

BTW, I never been to a R.E.M. concert.

Maybe you shouldn't have bothered to buy a ticket if you expect people to be the same as they were 20 years ago.

Wow, another newbie using the board as his personal blog. What's wrong with the frustration thread or any other thread in the dead-horse section? What's so special about your opinion that a whole new thread has to be created?

All I have to say is..DUDE...the videos u saw on the net do no justice to what they are like in real life.

> Sound being the key player....followed by the atmosphere and seeing them perform live.

I hope you have a different opinion after u see them live. In fact, Ill tell u now that you will. ?Tongue
