Don't you think that you need somebody?

« on: May 25, 2006, 01:44:08 AM »

Anyone remember in 2005, I think during the summer, some newspaper reporter commented on three new tracks: Quick Song, Zodiac and Atlas Shrugged.  Quick Song was obviously a working title, and the description of the song said it had riffs similar to Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana).  The pacing of the song and the regulated chords during the verses and the revved-up choruses of Better are similar to Teen Spirit   ... what do you all think?

ps.  the other descriptions: Atlas Shrugged sounded 70's glam/arena rock and Zodiac sounded electronic/industrial according to the reporter...  please correct me if I'm wrong (like anyone's shy on these boards!) but I think this was the article that ended with the reporter talking about how they had to stop traffic to let Axl leave the record company offices...

Anybody remember that post?  I'm not completely delusional I hope...

Chinese Democracy is closer to SLTS than Better is, though that doesn't really sound much like it either

no it`s not....   when axl came up with the lyrics he called it the "better" song. before that it was just an instrumental. it`s not really quick either, so no reason to call it quick song..

I heard somewhere (can't remember where, possibly messageboard speculation) that Quick song is CD, and Atlas shrugged is Madagascar not sure what Zodiac is or was, but I do remember the article your referring to. How much truth there is to what I said about Quick song and Atlas Shrugged I don't know but that's what I'd heard.

"Quick Song" and "Zodiac" origiated from Splat.  At least thats how I remember it.  So it's still hearsay.

For those interested, the info came from Jeff Leeds (the guy that wrote the NY Times article) during a back & forth conversation with Splat. http://sp1at.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27 The post from BB in its entirety:

Jeff Leeds has spoken to Splat about some 'new' tracks he encountered during his recent investigations for his GN'R article in the NY Times .

The first track, 'Atlas Shrugged' is described as being somewhere between 70's glam rock and 'November Rain'. Another new track, 'Quick Song', is a rock song with a riff similar to 'Smells Like Teen Spirit. The last track, 'Zodiac', is described as an electronic, industrial song.

It is likely that these tracks are older GN'R tracks, so it is unclear whether these tracks will have been A-listed for the forthcoming Guns n'roses, 'Chinese Democracy'.

Yes I remember the article.? But I don't think "Better" is the new title of "Quick Song".  I think "Quick Song" is probably what it is.....a quick song, lol.  Maybe less than a minute or perhaps around 30 seconds, etc.
