It would take a miracle for CD to outsell AFD, in an age where cd sales are dropping I'd be surprised if any music album released now outsells AFD.

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guns_N%27_Roses#Appetite_for_Destruction

Some incorrect info here then - read the last line of the AFD section. The Alanis Morisette article contradicts it.

Appetite's RIAA certifications are outdated. I can tell you right now that Appetite For Destruction has sold atleast 1.5 million more records in the U.S. than Jagged Little Pill.

In that Wikipedia article... the 20 million records sold.... thats in the US only, not including worldwide.  I'd bet its close to 30 million worldwide.

I read that AFD is a top selling back catalog record, and that it does 5,000 copies a week, which is like 250k a year, not to bad, so theoretically they have sold nearly 1 million copies between The Garden and Hammerstein shows

i read that it sells 9,000 a week. then i heard a number lower, but it was higher than 5,000. Either way its alot of albums. with downloading these days, expecting chinese democracy to exceed it is unrealistic. although, i think there are people who will buy it just for the hell of it, just because its CD...my roomate is a gnr fan, but not diehard. he said he will buy the cd, but just because of the stuff around the record, if it was a regular record he would have just downloaded it.
