I always thought this tune was mediocre. The organ in the intro is pretty unique and makes it seem like the song will be interesting, but then those boring repetitive lyrics kick in and the song goes nowhere. The lyrics are just too melodramatic, as if they were written by some emo kid in his highschool english class. The movie samples feel like they were stuck in there just because there was nothing else interesting going on in the song. I'm still interested to hear a studio recording though, it might turn out alright in the end.

I think the hip-hop beats kinda "kill" the song. It would sound much much better with reall drums all along the song.

How can this song go from good to bad? It was either always good or bad.

LOVE the song. i reallly dont think it's boring, less boring than patiend for example. it's heavy and sets a great ambiance with the lightning.

it could be improved tho

= more verses, longer ones.
= heavier / rocker music during the speech samples

Its a good song, but i agree with some other people, its not a good LIVE song.  I don't think the blues is either, it just doesn't have that pick up that NR and patience does.  great song, but it just doesn't work for me live.

the ole hannahat has seen his last GNR show at hammerstein, bailing on tonights show - just sold my tix.  I think last weekend and monday night have finally caught up to me.  Probably the biggest regret I'll have this year (lifetime? hehe).

To those going, have a great time and if Izzy shows up, SOMEONE better tape it!

I love the song, and quotes from Civil War work fine since the song is about the old bandmates.

I love this song... To me it's a modern day epic and I think it works well live.. a lot better than the blues. The movie quotes are cool.. they make it unique.

i guess you know that for sure? Kiss

and that`s no reason to put in quotes from civil war....not that i have anything against them though...

I was at the first show in mezz 1 and I was unable to hear axl or MLK's voice throughout most of the song except for the loudest parts-- did others have this experience and has the mix (if thats what would be improved to help this) been improved?

Epic songs don't go over well with some people, especially live.  I dig it.

Please tell me what makes this song an epic. The term "epic" being used to describe anything doesn't go over too well with some people.

I swear you fuckers pick some of the dumbest things to start a topic over.

No point in even going into this one, I was at the May 12 show, and the song is still good phenomenal.

Pull your panties back up.

Exactly -  I was at the 15th show and I thought that Maddy was one of the better songs played. I also saw most fans singing along - Not bad appreciation for a tune that has only been played live thus far
