I think the Tool , Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam releases definitely factored into Axl's decision to release this album after the hype for these other albums dies down some - assuming Democracy will be released this summer/spring, that is. Without a doubt it played a role.

That's what I was thinking, I was surprised no one else has said that yet lol.  I don't think any band will not release an album because of another band, but it is going to be interesting, especially with VR releasing theirs soon too.

I think it's good for all the big rock acts and rock in general when big releases are close together. The Illusions and Metallica's Black album were very close in release date, and if I recall correstly they both sold pretty well. Perhaps this will be the summer of rock! hihi

Geez, if he worried about stuff like that, it ?would take 10 years for CD to come out. ?hihi
rofl nice.

Anyway, I doubt it matters... maybe it won't be released on the same DAY, but the same month won't matter much

This one should be good, being produced by Rick Rubin. VR is due out in the fall. RHCP & Pearl Jam both come out in about 2 weeks so I don't think CD will be out by then. Another interesting one will be "Army of Anyone" with STP's DeLeo brothers & the singer of Filter (Richard Patrick??). I think that comes out in May or June, should be cool to see what it's like, but yeah that won't hold up CD. If this is true, of anything, it would have been PJ & RHCP.

I'm looking forward to Army of Anyone also

What I was saying before was this:   I think at some point in the Winter of 2005, Axl got his shit together and made the decision finally that 2006 would be the year. His thought process on when to release had to have taken into account what else would be released and when. Since all of these new albums will be released around the same time, why not wait just a little longer, let it die out and then OPEN THE VAULT  for us!
I would'nt ever suggest he was intimated in any sense, I just think it's a business move

As far as the other bands waiting for Democracy, it's a little different you know? A) There's obviously no real way to sense if Democracy will ever surface even if a release date is announced, as GNR have been a little too.....unpredictable  and b) the other bands haven't waited 15 years and spent $$$$$$
making these albums, so it's just a little bit different. That's all I mean

I think the chili peppers and Pearl Jam are releasing May 2nd and May 9th-kind of the same genre-you can't be worried about other bands

this is guns n roses first album in years, there's no need to worry about other releases clashing with it, there's no competition.

I'm of the opinion that having other major releases out on the same day would actually HELP Axl's own record sales.  Anything to bring more people in the stores.  There's a good chance that someone who walks in there with the intention of buying a CD will walk out with two.

Well , that's definitely a good point. But I got a feeling Axl wants his day in the sun to be about nothing but GNR

I'm more worried about Axl getting press for the CD. I mean, here in NY, the sold out shows at hammerstein really aren't spoken about, with the exception of course of GNR fan sites such as this. I mean, there's posters around the city, but there's no HUGE buzz like I think there should be.

If Axl really is going to release Chinese Democracy in a few short weeks, there needs to be a huge marketing campaign that wakes people up and tells them Guns and Roses is back.

Maybe it matters, it maybe it does'nt, but there are a few potentially big albums due out in the next few months. Chili Peppers have a double album coming soon, and Tool is putting out their first one in a few years. Do you guys think any of this goes into Axl's thinking as far as when to actually release the album?

NO... cuz then it would never get released.....oh wait Undecided

seriously though, no i don't think it matters
