It has nothing to do with being cool or giving back to the fans in the cities that were screwed (by the way, if that were the case, all of the cities post 12/6/02 should have free concerts  to make up for cancelled  shows). GNR should do some free  concerts  to attract a new fan base and showcase their new music. Aside from the fanatics on this site, 99% of music fans have no idea what GNR is up to or  what their  sound is today. So free concerts would be a marketing strategy to attract new fans and create some buzz so that venues  will be more than one-half full.
