First of all, the climate is different now than in 2002.? There is a underground movment in music towards rock, the hard rock black leather/stripper/vodka on the rocks counter-culture, and quality music right now (finally).? In addition, there is a whole new high school generation starting to dig on ma and pops classic Aerosmith, Zepplin, Metallica, and GNR (I think this contributed to GH's high sales) albums.?

The biggest difference between 2002 and 2006 is how GNR is reemerging:? with new music.? It seems the whole vibe, with a few new songs and the confidence of the band and management in their moves, is focused and in control.? The leak of IRS is what has started this whole mayhem, and I think that was a decision made by GNR.? The buzz is amazing, esp. when people start saying:"did you here that NEW Guns song?"

A few other (possible) smart marketing strategies:? leak a demo titled "IRS" during tax season when everyone is searching that term for one reason or another, and will come across search results for it.?

Also, I wonder why all the talk of Slash & Axl reuniting now?? Maybe to maximize interest in this new material using a subtle relation marketing technique.? Interesting stuff nonetheless, and it increasingly seems well planned and very suave.

haha, IRS, thats a good one? hihi

Who knows if there is any real substance in that idea, but it is an ironic coincidence.

One other thing that is different than 2002, are the well established online radio stations!  Streaming has come a long ways in the last few years!!  It's becoming far more global with the web.  Not many bands have figured out how to use the new communications technology to their advantage, maybe GNR will do something's differently to capitalize on the new marketplace.

I heard the reason for CD's delay has been Turbo Tax and Quicken fighting over the rights to use IRS in their new commercials. Wink

exactly...2002 the record was not even around the corner and they called it the 'Chinese Democracy' World Tour! It just makes no sense to start a tour with no album in sight.

But I'd add another thing to this: Axl i think is in a better mindset than he was in 2002-for however good some of those shows were (and some were excellent), i think there appeared to be a general lack of confidence in the guy that maybe isnt there now.

well, when the the Philly radio Stations were promoting the 12/6 show, they were also saying CD was right around the corner in early 2003.  Npt sure what kind of promotion the other shows got.

At least there have been a few leaks of the new songs

And rampant rumors /speculation about the album but that's been going for what seems like forever

We know that was BS cause Axl himself said they just wanted to get out of the studio and that 'soon' wasn't the word.

Yes I'm sure his state of mind is a big difference. Ok his not laughing his ass off in the new pictures, but much more relaxed and confident. And wheres the bodyguards? Are there any? I mean in the JFK pics his just a guy standig there with his suitcase surrounded by a bunch of kids, unreal is the word.
