Is the title of the last song on Tommy's album. Very autobiographical in my opinion. I think it is about Tommy's current situation with Gnr and at the same time about his career with the Mats and solo. Great lyrics...let's pick them apart.

You've got a close eye on the world outside from the inside of your cage. You're staring through the cracks in the drapes for a key with a midget on your back goin blind and mean. How much could you ask for? How much would you ask for? Something of use will come of these worn out shoes. Something of use will come of these painful dues. The bastard's wearing the dresses now he bitches no one calls him by his name. My baby she's got the blues another rapist grows into his running shoes. How much could you ask for? How much would you ask for? Dear God can't just leave me alone said the martyr to the thief. There's not enough room in this reflection for two and now one of us is going to have to leave in peace. Someday something of use will come of these dried up tears. Something of use will come of the blood and the blues. IF WE WASTE ANOTHER YEAR, it's always someday. Lift yourself up from the gutter to the grave, they'll fax you your last rights. Well, maybe I said everything is alright. Well, THEY'RE JUST NOT UNBEARABLE. Yet, how much would you ask for? How much could you ask for? Someday something of use will come of these lives that we choose. Someday something of use will come of the blood and the blues of this wasted youth. Something of use will come.

Great song....I really hope the guy ends up making it from a money standpoint. He deserves it. Discuss.

That song is one of my favorites from the album, its such a very amazing song lyrically and musically. I don't really know if this song has anything to do with gnr or not but it really really is an amzing song. It's too bad the album never got the attention it deserves because it was one of the best albums to come out in the last 10 years at least.

I agree 100%. Phenomenal song, and talent showcased on that solo record. Gives me goosebumps when I listen to it every once in awhile.

As for whether it was written about GnR/Axl, I doubt it since when the album was released Tommy said the majority of songs had been written years and years before he finally managed to record them, so the relevance to GnR could be in doubt there. I think it's written about his relationship with Paul Westerberg to tell you the truth.

Well, it may not be directly about Gnr but it certainly has lines which are spot on as to what has happened the last few years. It definitely is about his career. I agree that overall it may be more about Paul. That song plus Without A View (great cello work by Fortus), Bite Your Tongue, Light of Day, and Hey You-all are great musically and especially lyrically. Not to start a debate, but he is a better lyric writer than Izzy-I'm not talking about writing riffs etc, just lyrics. I am suprised Axl never bounced any ideas off him as far as lyrics go. He may have but his only official statement about the subject said he (Axl) has been the sole lyric writer for the record. That's a shame. peace

Tommy says in a few interviews that Someday is his favorite song.  I asked him about it a year ago at his concert and his reply on stage was, "yeah mother fucker!", pretty funny.

Tommy says it was written about his struggles when he first moved to LA and wondering if he'd fit in.  So it was written before GNR or else right when he joined, but could have been altered along the way.

I think it was important for him because at the time he was taking a lot of flack from the Replacements community about trying to be famous and moving out to LA.
